Urge Return of
Judge Sweeney to
Recorder's Bench

Ile is the happiest, be he king
or peasant, who finds peace in
his home.—Goethe.
But every house where Love
abides
And Friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home, sweet
The return of Judge Henry S.
home;
Sweeny as Judge of the Record-
For there the heart can rest.
er's Court is urged by a host
—Henry van Dyke.
of Jewish friends, who state:
"Judge Sweeny has always con-
ducted his court in a kindly and
sympathetic manner, and has
earned the respect and affection
of all our people who have come
in contact with him. He has al-
ways been absolutely fair and
impartial in his treatment of all
cases which came before him,
regardless of race or creed, and
has earned many favorable com-
ments from prominent social
workers for his humane and
helpful efforts to combine mercy
with justice in deserving cases.
Judge Sweeny possesses a good
natured personality, yet his court
always had an air of dignity
which manifests a thorough un-
derstanding of the proper way
to conduct a court. Judge
Sweeny is a man whose capabili-
ties and experiences, gained in
his long career as a public serv-
ant, coupled with his many fine
virtues as a man and judge,
should assure our support of his
candidacy when we go to the
polls next Monday."

Judge John P. Scallen ran for
the Recorder's Court Bench six
years ago and won his election
very handily by polling an ex-
tremely satisfactory number of
votes; while in the recent Pri-
mary, the citizens of Detroit
showed very conclusively their
high regard and esteem, by giv-
ing Judge Scallen an overwhelm-
ing vote, which placed him very
close of leading the entire ticket
of Recorder's Court Judges.
Judge John P. Scallen is a
native Detroiter, having secured
his boyhood education, college
work, legal practice, and finally
his public acceptance to the high
office of Judge of Recorder's
Court; during his period of edu-
cation, Judge Scallen earned his
three degrees of Bachelor of Arts,
Master of Arts, and Doctor of
Laws, all of which give him a
status of qualification.
Judge John P. Scallen, for the
past 20 years or more, has car-
ried the confidence of practically
all of the various groups from
his endorsement by Organized
Labor, our Jewish Citizens, the
Colored People, the Finnish, Ital-
ian, Hungarian, Rumanian, Pol-
ish, Scandinavian and many other
specific groups.

Only 89c—yes—but don't judge
these stockings by their low
price. See them! Both the 3-
threads and the 2-threads are
made entirely of silk, and have
that good look which comes from
an even weave, nice details and
careful fit.

Wear 3-thread Philmy* for day-

sturdiness. In well-proportioned
