Appeal Is Issued for
the Mo'os Chitim
In a letter addresed to friends
of the cause of Mo'os Chitim,
Charles A. Smith, c h a i r m a n,
states:
"The overseas problems which
confront us must not turn our
attention away from those who
need us here at home. Hundreds
of Jewish families in Detroit de-
pend upon our support, so that
they may welcome and mark the
festival of Passover properly.
Many of these families have a
problem of maintaining themselves
all year and their needs are multi-
plied during Passover. It has
been the traditional responsibil-
ity of a Jewish community to see
the other necessities of the holi-
that no Jew lacks matzoth and
day.
"More than 1,200 families last
year were enabled by our assist-
ance to gather around the Seder
table with some measure of joy.
We would like to give them such
grants this year as will make
Passover for them a true holiday
of freedom from want and worry.
We appeal to you to participate
with us in this sacred task.
Please do not delay. Send in your
contribution at once so that all
preparations may be made in
time for Passover. We are sure
that your Passover will be made
the happier by the knowledge
that you have enabled another
family to rejoice on this festival
of freedom. We shall await your
response."
It is urged that contributions
be sent promptly, to Charles A.
Smith, 1935 Glynn Court, in
order to enable the committee to
determine individual budgets, so
that checks and matzoth orders
can be distributed in ample time
for Passover.
A general executive board meet-
ing has been called for Tuesday
evening, March 25, at 8 o'clock,
at the Shaarey Zedek. On the
agenda are reports of committees
and final arrangements for the
distribution of checks and mat-
zoth orders.
The committee is using the fol-
lowing method in accepting re-
quests for Passover assistance:
On March 21 cards will be sent
to families known to the Depart-
ment of Public Welfare, the
Wayne County Bureau of Social
Aid, the Jewish Social Service
Bureau, and all women's relief
organizations.
Applications will be taken on
Monday, March 31, at 7 p. m.,
at the Emanuel Synagogue,
Woodrow Wilson and Taylor, of
families not known to the above
organizations, that have not yet
made a personal application or
have not received a card. Those
coming on March 31 to make
personal applications are advised
to bring with them identifica-
tions to facilitate their inter-
views. No new applications will
be accepted after April 8.
Harold Silver, director of the
Jewish Social Service Bureau,
will speak in behalf of Mo'os
Chetim at 9:30 p. m. over Alt-
man's Radio Hour, Station
WJLB, dial 1420, Saturday eve-
ning, March 22.
At the public meeting of the
Zionist Organization of Detroit,
held on Tuesday evening at the
Shaarey Zedek, announcement
was made that Palestine wines
will be sold in state stores this
year, on the eve of Passover.
In order to encourage the sale
of Palestine products, Detroit
Jews are urged to make pur-
chases of Carmel wines in the
state stores.
The Zionist rally on Tuesday
was addressed by Dr. Israel
Efros. professor of Hebrew at
the University of Buffalo, who
spoke on the life and works of
Judah Halevi, on the occasion
of the 800th anniversary of the
death of the national poet. It was
one of the most brilliant and
most instructive addresses ever
heard in Detroit, and the audi-
ence sat enchanted by the lec-
turer's erudition and elowuence.
So fascinating was his address,
that there was general expres-
sion of hope that Dr. Effros will
return to Detroit for another lec-
ture soon.
The audience stood for a
minute in tribute to the memory
of Herman Schuldinger, Detroit Heroic British Spirit Praised by
