WEIZMANN (Continued from Page One) months, will fly to the United States from Lisbon by Clipper early this week for a brief visit to this country. Dr. Weizmann, who had on a number of previous occasions planned to come to the United States, was detained in London by his war duties and by vital developments with regard to the role of the Jewish community of Palestine in the defense of the Middle Eastern front. During his brief stay in this country Dr. Weizmann will con- fer with leading American scien- tists regarding his chemical re- search for the British war effort and will discuss with American Jewish leaders plans for enabling. Palestine to give maximum aid to the cause of Britain in the Middle East. Dr. Weizmann's visit is of special importance in view of the recent developments in Southeastern Europe and in Syria which have placed Pales- tine in a strategic position in the prosecution of the war by the British in the Eastern Mediter- ranean. The world-renowned Jew- ish leader, who served as the director of the chemical labora- tories at the British Admiralty during. the First World War from 1916 to 1919, will remain in this country for only a short period, as he expects to return to Lon- elan as quickly as possible to carry on his war duties. At the present time the Daniel Siert' Chemical Research Institutc. in Palestine, of which Dr. Weiz- mann is the head, is engaged in scientific work to aid the British forces in the Middle East. As president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine and of the World Zionist Organization, Dr. Weizmann has guided the des- tinies of the rebuilding of the Jewish National Home in Pales- tine. He is universally regarded as one of the most distinguished and creative Jewish personalities of modern times.
