Brother He Had Never
In Detroit March 26
Seen
Two brothers, one 71 and the
other 53 years old, saw each other
for the first time over the week-
end. It took a business trip from
Los Angeles, Calif., to Washing-
ton, D. C., and before that escape
from Nazi-dominated Germany to
bring about the meeting.
Benjamin B. Weil, welcomed his
brother, Adolf, now of Los An-
geles, and formerly of Germany,
at his home, 116 N. Monroe St.,
Bay City, last week, and this
week left from Detroit for Cali-
fornia.
The visitor came to California
two years ago after conditions in
Germany became intolerable. The
Bay City brother arrived in
America about 54 years ago and
Adolf was born one year later
in Stuttgart. Several other mem-
bers of the Weil family are now
trying to gain entrance to the
United States, and one has gotten
as far as Shanghai, China.

Nelson Eddy who, according to
"Variety,' is the No. 1 box-office
attraction in the United States,
believes hard work is the only
secret of success. He left school
at 14 and has been working ever
since. The greater his success the
more he works.
His first job was with his uncle
at the Mott Iron Works in Phil-
adelphia where he worked the
telephone switchboard and receiv-
ed $8.00 a week . . . Later be-
came night clerk on the Philadel-
phia Press where a reporter friend
taught him to write "obits" . . .
rose to be a reporter on the Bul-
letin . . eventually rote adver-
tising. copy.
Eddy learned to sing by listen-
ing to gramaphone records of
great operatic baritones.
Today on concert tours Mr.
Eddy is mobbed by fans . . . In
some hotels admirers have parked
for the day with lunches, wait-
ing in the corridor for his door
to open. Women steal pass keys
to his room. He loses an average
of a dozen handkerchiefs a day
from his breat pocket. He goes
under special escort from train
to hotel, from hotel to concert
hall.
Nelson Eddy will appear in De-
troit in concert at the Masonic
Auditorium on Wednesday eve
ning, March 26. Tickets for this
recital may be purchased at the
box office at Grinnell Bros. Music
Store.

Jewish youth rally climaxing the
institute. Rabbi Abraham Cron-
bach of the Hebrew Union Col-
lege, Cincinnati, 0., will be the
principal speaker. Other speak-
ers on the program include Mau-
rice Sugar, labor attorney; Sam

bach. For further information

*--
Charles Chaplin in "The Great
Dictator" will open its Detroit en-

of the roadshow policy. On the ,
same program will be Booth Tar-
