The first war relics of the
bombing of Britain to arrive in
Detroit have been received by
Mrs. Arthur Gardner, chairman
of the Detroit chapter of Bun-
dles for Britain, at 3 Kercheval
Ave., Grosse Pointe Farms.
The souvenirs were collected
by A. E. Marshall of Codner,
Coombs and Dobbie, Ltd., London
bootmakers. In a letter to Mrs.
Gardner, the difficulty of ob-
taining bomb fragments and oth-
er war souvenirs was explained
by Marshall, as well as the task
of obtaining a permit to ship
them. It required three months
to assemble the collection.
While gathering mementos of
bombing raids on London, one in
particular had a strange twist.
Marshall wrote in describing a
fragment of a delayed action
bomb which exploded near the
Ford Motor Car Co. showrooms
in Regent St., that the frag-
ment passed over Piccadilly, hit
the opposite curb in Jermyn Ct.,
where his store is located, and
rinochetted back through the
window. The bootmaker's shop
is three blocks from the Ford
showroom.
