tribute last Sunday, on the occas-
ion of the completion of 15 years
of inspiring spiritual leadership
and public service.
President
Roosevelt
greeted
Rabbi Brickner in a letter, stat-
ing: "I trust that long years of
happiness and of helpful service
in the ministry will be yours in
the community which you have
served with such fidelity and un-
selfishness."
At the testimonial service, the
following representatives of the
city's life paid their tributes to
Dr. Brickner: Hon. Edward Bly-
thin, mayor of Cleveland; Dr. Dil-

REFUGEE STUDENT CAMPAIGN
STARTED ON U. OF M. CAMPUS
The 1941 Refugee Student Cam-
paign on the University of Mich-
igan Campus is now in full swing.
Every Jewish student, faculty
member, and townsperson is be-
ing contacted in this all campus
drive to raise funds for students
who have been driven from their
native university and now are
forced to continue their education
elsewhere. The proceeds from the
first drive which was launched
in 1939 provided funds to enable
almost a score of students to
complete or continue their col-
lege education in this country.
In 1939-1940 the original com-
mittee of the Ann Arbor Jewish
Committee took care of all or
part of the expense of 10 refugee
students. Of these, one completed
work leading to an M. D. degree,
two others received Masters De-
grees, and one received a B. S.
degree in Engineering. These four
people are now self-supporting,
and in two cases are helping to
support their families.
The Central Committee which
is sponsoring the drive is headed
by Dr. Jacob Sacks of the Phar-
macology Department who is
chairman and in charge of solicit-
ing faculty members; Osias
Zwerdling of Ann Arbor in
charge of townspeople; Martin
B. Dworkis of Brooklyn who is
heading the students section of
the drive; and Rabbi Jehudah M.
Cohen who is an Ex Officio mem-
ber of the Committee.
The funds from the first cam-
paign are now exhausted and in
order to continue the work which
the Committee is doing more
money must be collected. Refugee
students are given tuition by the
Committee and room and board
by one of the local fraternities.
There are at the present time
many students who could continue
their studies at this school if
funds were available. The present
drive has been launched in the
hope that the present program
of rehabilitation may be con-
tinued.
