Thrills Audiences
With His Singing
Mozhitzer Rebbe Will Again
Conduct Services Here
This Saturday
One of the most thrilling ex-
periences of many Detroit Jews
during the past week was to hear
the Chassidic singing of Rabbi
RABBI SAUL TAUB
(The Mozhitzer Rebbe)
Saul Taub—the famous Mozhit-
zer Rebbe who is guest here for
another few days.
Conducting services at the
Beth Yehudah Synagogue last
Sabbath, Rabbi Taub also offici-
ated at a Shalosh Seudos and a
Melaveh Malke on Saturday, and
a large audience heard him
preach and sing.
Composer of hundreds of melo-
dies, the Mozhitzer Rebbe inter-
preted some of them, led in mass
singing and kept his followers en-
thralled until past midnight.
This Saturday, Rabbi Taub
will conduct services at the Beth
Abraham Synagogue, Linwood
and Sturtevant. On Saturday he
will again conduct a Melaveh
Malke, at 9 p. en., and the public
is welcome.
At 7:30 p. m. on Monday, the
Mozhitzer Rebbe will be tendered
a fareweel at Lachar's on 12th
St. The public is invited.
Rabbi Taub's singing and mu-
sical genius have been acclaimed
in books and periodicals. Even
the most ardent Misnagdim (op-
ponents of Chassidism) have pro-
claimed him as one of the great
musical figures of this age.
While in Palestine, on a third
visit, within the last three years,
he gathered around him a large
following of Chalutzim who
adopled his melodies and are now
using them among their most
popular songs.
Six weeks ago, the Mozhitzer
Rebbe came to this country
through San Francisco. Compelled
to seek refuge from his native
city of Otvotzk upon the capture.
of Poland by the Nazis, he trav-
eled through Polish cities and
villages, conducted services in
forests, was followed by gangs
who sought to attack him, and
he finally found a haven in Rus-
sia. There, he traveled widely,
went to Biro Bidjan, conducted
services and was given a chance
to adjust himself before leaving
for the United States. He came
to Moscow, was treated well,
managed to buy a Jewish cal-
endar which was prepared in
longhand. From Russia he went
to Japan, then to the United
States.
The Mozhitzer Rebbe is stay-
ing here with the Samuel Mil-
groms at 1670 Pingree Ave.,
and he will be pleased to meet his
followers there.
During his visit in Palestine
at the time of the riots and the
building of the Ael Aviv Port,
Rabbi Taub composed two songs
dedicated to the Jewish efforts
for Palestine's reconstruction.
While in Palestine, he was hailed
as "The Jewish Toscanini."
The Detroit committee in
charge of the Mozhitzer Rebbe's
visit here is composed of Jacob
Soberman, M. Lipshitz, M. Mager,
M. Mohr, Harry Stolsky and E.
Rutenberg.
