JEWISH CHRONICLE and the Legal Chronicle

fense of the position we have established
in Palestine, then the uncompromising ele-
ments among our national leaders will
similarly be compelled to change their
ways and to strive for unity on a basis
devoid of personal bitterness and age-old
grudges which should have been aban-
doned long ago.
Of course, unity loses its value when
one dominant group seeks to suppress the
principles of another with whom it co-
operates. If Palestine, for instance, is of-
fered a second class status to refugee
housing in America, then the Zionist ele-
ments have a right to protest and to reject
a unity that spells death to an idea. But
when the individual communities enact a
program that nullifies such principle-
defying action, we are in position again
to return to a road that must lead to
justly achieved and friendly unity.
The statement issued last week by
the executive committee of the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation that the dis-
solution of the United Jewish Appeal
will not affect the unity of the Allied
Jewish Campaign of Detroit should
be welcomed as significant evidence
that Detroit does not alter its policy
of unity. The speedy action of the
local Federation is a credit to our
present leadership and to the men and
women who are directing our com-
munity affairs.
Let the communities speak their minds,
as the Detroit Federation has spoken its
mind, and unity will be possible. Detroit
once again leads the way towards the
establishment of wholesome community
relationships.

A Jewish section of the Inter-Faith
Committee to Aid the Democracies, being
formed as an outcome of the conference
of the American Jewish Congress, is un-
dertaking to provide a fleet of mobile
kitchens as the contribution of the Ameri-

relief.
It is the aim of the initiators of this
movement to invite the cooperation of all
elements in American Jewry and to make
the gift as representative as possible. As
