Jewish Women's European Wel-
fare held Dec. 30 at the Bnai
Moshe, Mrs. D. Silverstein pre-
sided. Relief checks were sent
to Hungary, China and Pales-
tine. A ticket was sent for an
orphan to be brought from Lon-
don to Detroit.
Plans are now being formul-

last Spring which severely dam-

Literature and to Aid Hebrew Writers
in Palestine

Dr. Simon Ginzburg, eminent
Hebrew poet and editor, noted
scholar and translator, arrived in
Detroit this week for a brief stay
in the interests of the Keren
Hatarbut, the Palestine Hebrew
Culture Fund.
Dr. Ginzburg pointed out upon
his arrival here that the fund
not only encourages the publish-
ing of Hebrew books but aids
the writers, 300 of whom are in
dire need as a result of the war
crisis. In addition, the fund pro-
vides for the upkeep of the Beth
Bialik, the home of the late
Chaim Nachman Bialik, which has
been transformed into a national
shrine in Palestine.
The Detroit committee for the
Keren Hatarbut consists of Dr.

Mrs. Mauttice Landau is chair-
man of the Detroit Women's Di-
vision of Karen Hatarbut. Moe
Aiga Heeshman is chairman of
the Youth Division.
Dr. Ginzburg is author of two
books of collected poems as well
as of a Biblical epic, "The Love
of Hosea." His works were pub-
lished by Bialik's Publishing
House, Dvir of Tel Aviv.
In 1931 his English book on
the "Life and Works of Moses
Hayynn Luzzatto, Father of
Modern Literature," was pub-
lished by Dropsie College, Phila-
delphia.
In 1933 Dr. Ginzburg went
to Palestine where he was active
in the literary field, and where
he served as chairman of the
Hebrew Writers Association of
Palestine. At the end of 1938
he was delegated to America by
the two central agencies for He-
brew culture, the Hebrew Writers
Association of Palestine and the
Brit Ivrit Olamit. He is the
founder of the "Keren Hatarbut"
(Palestine Hebrew Culture Fund),
of which he is the executive di-
rector.

Public Session of Hebrew Teachers' Convention
This Saturday Evening

In connection with the midwest
convention of the Hebrew Teach-
ers' Federation, now being held
in Detroit, which opened last
Thursday, Jan. 2, in the Rose
Sittig Cohen Building, there will
be an open session at this build-
ing on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 8:30
p. m.
An interesting symposium has
been arranged for this session
which is open to the public. The
participants will be Dr. Leo L.

Honor, director of the Board of
Jewish Education of Chicago,
Judge Charles Rubiner and Ber-
nard Isaacs. Simon Hhetzer will
be the chairman. This symposium
is being arranged jointly by the
Midwest Federation of Hebrew
Teachers, the National Council
for Jewish Education, and the
American Association for Jewish
Education.
There is no admission charge
and the public is invited.
