JEWISH CENTER HOLDS Membership Tea of
Loyal Judaism, Like Loyal Americanism,
Demands Knowledge of People's History ART WEEK EXHIBITION J. N. F. Ladies Dec. 10

A Message on the Occasion of Annual Education Month
of United Hebrew Schools

By DR. LEO M. FRANKLIN
Rabbi of Temple Beth El

If ever there was a time when
we were sorely in need of an
informed Jewry, it is today. In a
time when it is tremendously es-
sential that the Jew should feel
a proper sense of dignity in being
a Jew, it is self-evident that a
background of knowledge of his
own past is indispensable — the
knowledge of the part that the
Jew has played in history that
can give to our adult generation
as well as to our youth that
proper pride which we should
have when we are assailed by
those who would destroy us. The
citizen of this Republic who is
wholly ignorant of American his-

tory can scarcely become a patriot
in the best sense of the term, but
it is equally true that the Jew
who is uninformed about Judaism
is not likely to be a loyal and
self-respecting Jew. Religious edu-
cation, therefore, is one of our
first defense lines. That line we
should strengthen at every point
and in every way that is human-
ly possible.

The deeds of charity we have
done shall stay with us forever.
Only the wealth we have be-
stowed do we keep; the other
is not ours.—Middleton.
