war medals for distinguished
nursing service.
Since the outbreak of the pres-
ent war, Lady Marley has been
engaged in many war-time activi-
ties. As a member of several gov-
erning boards of London schools,
she has participated in the Lon-
don Country Council plans for
the evacuation of mothers and
babies and children of school age
from London to safer areas. On
one occasion she left London with
a party of 400 mothers and
babies, and helped to settle them
in homes in a country district.
Lady Marley has also cooper-
ated with the Canadian Red Cross
in London, working in their War
Comforts Department, and acting
as assistant cook in one of their
Canteens for Troops. She says
she enjoys cooking which she
learned 'n the hospital which she
and her sister gave to the French
in the last war.
In addition to her Red Cross
work she has made a study of the
problem of malnutrition in her
own country and is also a mem-
ber of the China Campaign Com-
mittee which supports a hospital
in China and sends medical sup-
plies to the field hospitals witih
the Chinese troops.
With her husband, Lord Mar-
ley, serving as chairman of the
Parliamentary
British Empire
Advisory Council of the ORT, and
vice chairman of the British Par-
liamhentary Committee on Refu-
gees, Lady Marley has been con-
cerned with the welfare of refu-
gees in England. She has visited
the Internment Camps and is
supporting the ORT plan to pro-
vide training courses and tech-
nical schools for refugees in the
camps and other areas.
Recognized as the outstanding
non-Jewish friends of the Ort,
Lord and Lady Marley have visit-
ed Poland and the Baltic States
several times to inspect the ORT
vocational schools. workshops and
agricultural establishments. They
have also visited Russia and seen
many of the ORT collective farms
and factories in the Crimea and
the Ukraine. Lady Marley visited
Poland and the Baltic States as
recently as Sept., 1938, and
therefore has first-hand informa-
tion of the conditions of the
Jewish people in those countries
just before the outbreak of war.
Lady Marley first accompanied
her father to America in 1904,
when he came as President of
the first World's Press Parlia-
ment. She was also here in 1937,
when sim assisted in a campaign
for ORT.
The ORT is one of the benefi-
ciary agencies of the annual Al-
lied Jewish Campaign conducted
by the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion.
Abe Srere, president of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, will
preside at the meeting. He ex-
tends an invitation to members
of the local Jewish community
to attend.
