in his speech accepting the nomination for the Presidency of the United States,
Mr. Willkie made it plain that he intends to help safeguard the rights of minor-

Says "NO"

TO THIRD TERM

a

"The 'no-third' term tradition
has been vindicated by a century
and a half of American exper-
ience, and it is particularly im-
portant in these days, when the
indispensable-one-man-rule is ex-
alted in so many parts of the
world at the expense of the
democratic faith in laws and in-
stitutions rather than in persons,
that it should not be repudiated.

After saying that one of his ancestors was exiled because of his religion; another
persecuted because he favored the principles of the French revolution, and still an-
other jailed for insisting on the right of free speech, Mr. Willkie declared:

"AS THEIR DESCENDANT, I HAVE FOUGHT FROM BOYHOOD AGAINST ALL
THOSE RESTRICTIONS, DISCRIMINATIONS AND TYRANNIES. AND I AM
STILL FIGHTING."

Still fighting! That this is no mere perfunctory utterance of a candidate for office is
attested by his record. When one considers that his home state of Indiana was the
hot bed of Ku Klux Klanism and his energetic and vigorous opposition to this sub-
versive movement, is there any one who can question the liberalism, tolerance and
humanitarianism of Wendell L. Willkie?
