"Religion in Crisis"
Is 1940 AZA Thesis
The Supreme Advisory Council
of the AZA announced as the
subject for the 1940-41 national
oratorical contest, "Religion in the
Present Crisis."
Instead of the former 10 min-
ute prepared oration, as held
heretofore, there is to be a six-
minute prepared oration. A half-
hour before the contest, the ora-
tor will receive a question pre-
pared by the national AZA head-
quarters in Washington, D. C.
Art Goodman was installed as
the new president of the Bnai
David chapter 314 at the social
held at the Bnai David. Other
officers for the new term include
Murray Mahlin, vice-president;
Raymond Bloch, secretary; Sid-
ney Brodie, treasurer; Harold
Milner and Harold Klein, ser-
geant-at-arms; Gerald Brusson,
reporter, and Harry Kovitz, chap-
lain. The special event of the
program was the presentation of
two "Shield of David" awards
for outstanding leadership and
ability in AZA by former AZA
Michigan deputy, Gilbert Madief-
sky to Sidney Garelick and Jack
Rouman of the chapter. Rabbi
Joshua Sperka of Bnai David and
Dr. Silverman, past-president of
the Louis Marshall Lodge, were
guest speakers.

A Plea for Good Will
Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle:
I sincerely wish to take this
opportunity of extending my
wishes to you for a Happy New
Year, and many years to come,
including peace on earth and
good will to men.
I realize that the world is all
upside down, but we are to blame
for most of this trouble, for the
reason that we didn't understand
each other, but I trust that this
terrible situation will not be ex-
tended to America, which is the
only country left in the world
without any sorrow.
This, of course, depends on
you and me, to work and pray
together so that God will save
America from joining any houses
of destruction.
