HORNER'S DEATH Donor Event Nov. 19

The Masada Unit of the Pion-
eer Women's Organization held
open house Monday at Mrs. Wil-
liam Cohen's home in Huntington
Woods. Ten new members were
brought into the unit. Aaron Ro-
senberg was the guest speaker
on the place women have in the
Zionist movement. He also read
stories from his own book, "Tales
Out of School."
Mrs. Sol Hammerstein of the
Hedera unit also entertained at
a membership tea for the club
and their prospective members.
The Hedera group also held in-
stallation of officers in the home
of Mrs. David Steffin. The mis-
tress of ceremony was Mrs. Mar-
tin Naimark.

CHICAGO.—(WNS)— Political
leaders and statesmen throughout
the country joined in mourning
the passing of Governor Henry
Horner of Illinois, who died last
Sunday at his home in suburban
Winnetka. He was 61 years old.
Dr. Louis L. Mann, rabbi of
Sinai Temple, of which the Gov-
ernor was a member, conducted
the funeral services. A Catholic
priest and a Protestant minister
were invited to assist Dr. Mann
in the ceremony.
The Governor was buried in
Mount Mayriv Cemetery, besides
the grave of his mother. He is
survived by two brothers, Sidney
Horner and James Levy of Chi-
cago, and four cousins, Mrs.
Maude Rosenbaum and Horace
Horner of New York City, Mrs.
Hazel Mannheimer of Buffalo and
Mrs. Irene Snellenberg of Phila-
delphia.
Before his election as Governor
of Illinois in 1932, he had been
for 18 years on the bench of the
Cook County Probate Court. A
consistant foe of the Kelly-Nath
machine in Chicago, Gov. Horner
worshipped Abraham Lincoln as
America's "noblest creature."
