MARCH (Ader Sheni)
Detroit baseball authorities re-
veal the proposed switching of
Hank Greenberg from first base
to left field in order to permit
both hank and Rudy York to
play at the same time .. . York,
a mighty slugger who bested
Babe Ruth's record of 17 homers
in one month by smacking 18,
failed in previous efforts to play
third base and the outfield . . .
A trial behind the plate proved
no more successful . . . York
can play first base, however, and
Detroit bosses felt that if Hank
could adapt himself to the out-
field, the Tigers would be
strengthened materially . . So
Hank declared he was willing
to give the outfield a try . . on
the promise that if he failed to
make the grade there he'd re-
turn to his first love and base.
