LOYALTY DAYS
OCT. 5 AND 6

Loyalty Days to increase at-
tendance in churches and syna-
gogues, annually sponsored by
the
Golden Rule Foundation, in asso_
ciation with other religious, edu-
cational and character-building
agencies, will be observed Satur-
day, Oct. 5, and Sunday,
Oct. 6.
This yearly go-to-church move-
ment is "a mobilization of spirit-
ual forces of the nation," s aid
Charles V. Vickrey, president of
the Foundation, at headquarters,
60 E. 42nd St., New York. The
invitation is worded: "Every
citizen is cordially invited and
every member confidently ex-
pected in a house of worship."
"In this year of world wars,
Loyalty Days take on a new sig.
nificance," Mr. Vickrey
tinued. "The nations of Asia con-
and
Europe have mobilized their mili-
tary and material forces in de-
vastating warfare at a stagger-
ing cost of men, money and mo-
rale. Our own nation is being
compelled to mobilize a part of
our National Guard, enlarge our
armies and our navies, and to
spend many billions of dollars
for
national defense.

of
our Na-
Fund, the instrument of the Zionist movement for the acquisition
of the soil of Palestine as national and inalienable property, em- tional Guard must answer to roll

barked on new efforts to extend the land areas in Jewish possession
in Eretz Israel. The Fund, which is now entering its thirty-ninth
year of operations, is engaged, in war as in peace, in carrying out
the Palestine Land Redemption program which is the backbone of
the upbuilding of Jewish Palestine. With a sum of more than
$28,000,000 entrusted to it by the Jewish people, the Jewish Na-
tional Fund has acquired and reclaimed more than 500,000 dunarns
of land in all parts of Palestine. On this land, 157 agricultural
settlements have been established and are existing today. As the
war spreads to the Mediterranean, new strongholds—now colonies—
are being built on the land of the Jewish National Fund.
With the beginning of the season, a new effort was launched
under the auspices of the Jewish National Fund's Department on
Youth. Zionist youth organizations, including Avukah, the American
Student Zionist Federation; Habonim, the Zionist Pioneer Youth;
Hapoel Ha'Mizrachi, the Religious Zionist Pioneer Youth; Hashorner
Hadati, the Religious Zionist Scout Organization; Hashorner
the Jewish World Scout Organization; Junior Hadassah, the Young
Women's Zionist Organization of America; Masada, the Youth Zion-
ist Organization of America; and Young Judaea, have undertaken
for 1940-1941 a program in behalf of a Youth Settlement Project.

ject to court martial.
Is it not equally or more im-
portant that we mobilize our
moral and spiritual forces, not
only on Loyalty Days, but for
subsequent Sabbaths throughout
the year? The slogan is 'Every
member present or accounted
for.' "

PHILOMATHIC
Philomathic Debating Club met
at the David Simons branch of
the United Hebrew Schools, Sept.
29. The program of the after-
noon was an interperative read-
ing contest. Max Chomsky, A.Z.A.
executive and former speaker of
the club, acted as critic.
Plans are nearing completion
for a series of debates between
Philomathic and A.Z.A. Chapter
in Flint, Bay City, Lansing and
Chicago.
