The ex- quisite miniature work that adorns the Ark includes ivory carvings symbolizing the Twelve Tribes of Israel, two lions carved in red stone, and relief carvings representing the stories of Adam and Eve and of Cain and Abel. Three bas reliefs illustrating the life of Moses appear on the doors of the Ark, as do twelve enamel- ed discs showing the Zodiacal cycle. The beauty of the Ark is en- hanced by intricate filigree work in silver, studded with semi-prec- ious stones. In addition to the Ten Commandments, executed in enamel, the six-cornered Star of David and the seven-branched Menorah also adorn the body of the Ark in various forms and designs. Hicks Named Assistant Director of Interfaith Body NEW YORK (WNS)—The ap- pointment of Otho J. Hicks as Assistant Director of the Nation- al Conference of Christians and Jews, was announced by the Co- Chairman of the organization, Prof. Arthur H. Compton of the University of Chicago, Prof. Carlton J. H. Hayes of Columbia University and Roger W. Straus. Dr. Everett R. Clinchy is Direc- tor of the National Conference. Before coming to the National Conference, Mr. Hicks was an editor of the New York after- noon daily, PM. He has also edited newspapers in Minnesota and has been a representative of the Associated Press abroad. Fair Palestine Exhibit Placed On Sale NEW YORK (WNS) — Hun- dreds of exhibits contained in the Jewish Palestine Pavilion at the Fair, exemplifying the artistic, industrial and cultural achieve- ments of the Jewish community of the Holy Land, have been placed on sale, it was announced by Meyer W. Weisgal, director. The sale, which includes many of the regular exhibit items as well as the paintings, drawings, etch- ings and sculptures on display in the Pavilion's Art Gallery, will continue until the close of the Fair on October 17th. The proceeds of the sale of art works will go to the Pales- tinian artists who created them, Mr. Weisgal said, while the sums realized on the rest of the ex- hibit material will be used to support the work of building the new homeland in Palestine for refugees from persecution. While the exhibits in the Pal- estine Pavilion had originally been sent to this country for the duration of the Fair only, the war-time closing of the Medi- terranean has made their return to the Holy Land impossible' at this time.
