Last June, the Batavia Jewish Sisterhood of Batavia, New York, a unit of the National Federa- tion of Temple Sisterhoods, or- dered 10 books of Uniongrams from the New York office of NFTS. Since immediate deliv- ery was requested, the order was filled at once. Soon afterwards, the Batavia group complained that the order for Uniongrams (message blanks which NFTS sells for the bene- fit of the religious education pro- gram of its parent body, the Union of American Hebrew Con- gregations, and for Hebrew Un- ion Cilleg Scholarships) had not been filled. Since it was clear that the 10 books of Uniongrams had not reached Batavia, the New York office sent a duplicate shipment and began a search for the lost 10 books. The search was as fruitless as the age old quest for the lost 10 tribes. Last week, headquarters was absolved! Ten books of Uniongrams in an NFTS manila envelope ad- dressed to BATAVIA, NEW YORK, were returned to the New York office by a regular mailman. The envelope had been sent to BAVARIA, GERMANY. As no addressee could be found in Bavaria, the German censor inspected the contents, resealed and stamped the envelope and mailed it back to New York City. OBITUARY JACOB SHERMAN 86 years old, died on Sept. 20. Funeral services were held in Toledo, Ohio on Sept. 20 with burial in Eagle Point Cemetery, Rabbi Freund officiating.
