We have democracy to save
and we must not permit the
enemies of deMoerao y to un-
dermine our freedom."
2. "We must support Pres-
ident Roosevelt's rearmament
program. It is our only choice
to be adequately prepared,
else we will be Nazified."
3. "Give all aid to Great
Britain to defeat the Nazis
before they even have a chance
to attack her. We must keep
the lines as far away from our
shore s as possible by giving
Great Britain the necessary
assistance. I urge you to sup-
port this program and to urge
our Government through your
Congressme n to give Britain
the necessary support."
4. "We must have a cam-
paign of education in the pub-
lic schools in behalf of de-
mocracy. Until now we were
not prepared. Had we been
prepared the rise of intoler-
ance and anti-Semitism would
have been impossible in this
country."
5. "We must not permit the
anti-Semites, the Nazis and
the Communists to be elected
to office. The people of Detroit
are, to be congratulated for
defeating two bigots for of-
fice, and the people of New
York will be congratulated to-
morrow when they defeat Joe
McWilliams."
6. "We must be, true ,, to
our religion. We *Must spread
good will among all peoples
so that all over America men
should be able to look at each
other and to say, 'We are
Americans and we have the
same rights.'"
The Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi
League warns distributors and
exhibitors that because of the
present ownership of the film,
"Tabu," made in the South
Seas in 1931, its showing may
result in aiding the Nazis in
Germany.
The film was first made by
Murnau, a German, with Para-
mount Pictures receiving the
original American rights. In
1936, however, when Para-
mount's rights expired, "Tabu"
reverted to the representatives
in Germany of Murnau, who
had died. World rights are now
held there.
An English copy of the Ger-
man version has been made
in order to show the film again
in the United States. Funds
derived from showing "Tabu"
are expected to be used in pay-
ment for the American rights.
Distributor members of the
Film Committee of the Non-
Sectarian Anti-Nazi League
have turned the picture down
since learning the facts about
it. Handling the film would be
a violation of the Committee's
agreement reaffirmed in May,
1939, which bans "any pictures
for which Germany would be
receiving any income what-
ever." The League's Commit-
tee, which consists of leading
independent importers, distrib-
utors and exhibitors, has been
instrumental in keeping most
Nazi productions out of the
United States.
Pictures henceforth coming
from Fascist Italy will also be
placed under this ban as a re-
sult of the military alliance
