in recent weeks by the German
and Italian press, the anti-Semi-
tic paper said : "One of the re-
sults of the war will be a Euro-
pean settlement of the entire
Jewish problem. Europe, which
has suffered so much harm from
Jews, will doubtless decide to
separate itself from Jews. It will
assign them some distant terri-
tory where they may reflect at
leisure on the inconvenience aris-
ing from provoking wars for the
good pleasure of Israel."

Slovakia Speeds "Aryanization"

The complete "aryanization"
of Jewish enterprises and estates
in Slovakia was expected shortly
with the announcement that the
Slovakian Parliament had given
the Government authority to
issue all necessary decrees.
The Nazi-controlled Govern-
ment hopes to effect the transfer
of Jewish-owned properties to
Gentiles within a few months.
Provisions have been made also
for the "aryanization" of estates
which passed from Gentile into
Jewish hands many years ago
through forced sales of unpaid
taxes or other debts.
The decree states that the pre-
vious owner or his Gentile heir
may at any time in the next six
months regain possession of the
pr op e r t y by depositing with
"aryanization" officials 25 per
cent of the original sale price
and a five-year, five per cent
promisory note for the balance.
It is not known what the Jews
will receive for their properties
but it was understood that the
amount will be all out of pro-
portion with actual value of the
land.

Petain Regime Surrenders Gryn-
szpan to Gestapo

Herschel Grynszpan, the young
Polish Jew who killed a Nazi
consular attache in Paris in 1938,
whose whereabouts has been the
subject of scores of unconfirmed
rumors and reports, has been sur-
rendered to the Nazi Gestapo by
the Petain Government at Vichy
under article 19 of the Com-
piegne armistice, it was definitely
established here.
Article 19 stipulated that Ger-
many could demand the return
of any refugee from the Reich
who fled to France. The young
Polish Jew was taken back to
Germany in a heavily-guarded
armored car.
Grynszpan had ample oppor-
tunities to escape but refused
them all, according to informa-
tion received here. He was among
a group of prisoners taken from
the Santa Prison of Paris, during
the height of the war, to another
part of France.
En route, the French police
abandoned the prisoners. Gryn-
szpan, however, went from prison
to prison, suggesting that he be
rearrested. Police headquarters
at Bourges and at Chateouroux
refused to accept him, saying
that they had no authority in the
matter.
Finally, Grynszpan went to
Toulouse where he persuaded
French prison officials to lock
him up. The Nazis learned of
Grynszpan's presence in Toulouse
and ordered him returned.
On Tuesday it was reported
that Grynszpan was given a 20-
year jail sentence by a French
court "under German domina-
tion."

Axis-approved, anti-Semitic Go
ernment headed by Genaral Don
Antonescu.
While King Carol fled the
country, taking temporary refuge
in Switzerland, mobs of Iron
Guardists stormed through the
streets of Bucharest smashing
the windows of Jewish-owned
shops and shouting "Down with
the Jews." The demonstrators
damaged the Jewish-owned Gal-
leries Lafayette.
Already restricted economic-
ally and politically, Rumania's
Jews looked forward with fore-
boding to the future. Premier
Antonescu, who established him-
self as dictator with King Michael
his royal figure-head, announced
that those who "unjustly" pun-
ished members of the Iron Guard
would meet with severe penal-
ties.
King Carol's abdication cul-
minated three months of strife
and unrest, during which the
Jews were the principal scape-
goats. The last Rumanian Gov-
ernment headed by Premier Ion
Gigurtu, also an anti-Semite, had
precipitated anti-Jewish disorders

The Jews, meanwhile, are
caught in a desperate position.
The anti-Jewish laws of Hungary

those of Rumania. Jews in Tran-

Jewish Doctors, Dentists Barred
from Practice in Luxembourg

Jewish physicians, dentists, vet-
erinaries and apothecaries were
forbidden to practice their pro-
fessions in Nazi-occupied Luxem-
bourg by a decree issued by Pro-
vincial Governor Gustav Simon,
who is responsible for the civil
administration of Luxembourg.
Henceforth, Jewish lawyers will
be permitted to represent only
themselves.
A second decree barred mar-
riages or intimate relations be-
tween Jews and Germans or per-
sons of cognte blood. All Jews
within Simon's jurisdicition have
been ordered to register all their
property whether within or out-
side of Luxembourg.
