Pioneer Women Send $25,-
000 to Palestine for Air-
Raid Shelters

Since the war has spread
through the Mediterranean, af-
fecting the Near East including
Palestine, the Pioneer Women's
Organization, a national organi-
zation for the working women
i Palestine, has raised an emerg-
n ncy fund of $25,000 among its
e
clubs throughout the United
States and Canadaand cabled
the sum to the Working Women's
Council in Tel Aviv.
Despite the critical situation in
polestine Which calls for emerg-
ency campaigns on the part of
Women's Organiza-
the Pioneer
tion, the membership continues
its intensive summer project for
the erection of a Vocational
School for Girls in Ramath Gan,
a suburb of Tel Aviv. Various
affairs, such as lawn parties, teas
and picnics are being arranged
in order to promote the sale of
bricks. It is expected that by
the end of the summer a • con-
siderable sum will have been
raised for the proposed trade
school, where girls of 14 and over
are to study the various branches

of house building, construction
of machinery and precision in-
struments, arts and crafts, mil-
linery and sewing, clerical work
and domestic science.

casion to broadcast over the Alt-
man's Jewish Hour on radio sta-
tion WMBC and I am moved to
write this letter because of the
very timely and useful appeal
Hyman Altman made to Detroit
Jews.
Mr. Altman urged all Jews to
fulfill their sacred civic obliga-
tion to vote and at all times
exercise their legal rights to fur-
ther the benefits of representa-
tive government.
I hope Mr. Altman's appeal
will be beneficial and fruitful as
have been his appeals in all cases
of communal needs.
I recall that recently an ap-
peal by the Women's Division of
the American Jewish Congress

Levant, the musician, impales one
of the melodies that Beethoven
and Berlin overlooked for im-
mortality or anyhow for Tin Pan
Alley.

was made by him for an ambu-
lance for the Red Cross.
No wonder Mr. Altman has
earned recognition for his use-
ful work both from Jews and
non-Jews in our community.
Sincerely yours,
Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka.

Fall Months

Climaxing one of the most suc-
cessful seasons in years, Gassel
Lodge in Lewiston, Mich., an-
nounces that following the usual
custom Gassel Lodge will again
be a veritable sportsmen's para-
dise which is sure to lure many
late vacationers who will find
this an ideal vacation spot dur-
ing the fall months. Such health-
ful exercises as fishing, boating,
swimming, ping pong and horse
shoe pitching a vait guests.
Visitors to Gassel Lodge are
high in their praise of Lou Gas-
sel, the genial host, whose charm
and ability to weld the guests
into one happy family aided in
proving each with a delightful
vacation. So popular was Gas-
sel's resort this summer that Mr.
Gassel was unable to accommo-
date many who neglected to make
reservations. To those who were
thus disappointed, Mr. Gassel of-
fers his sincere apologies.
One of the features of the
Lodge is the excellent cuisine. The
rooms are clean and comfortable
with showers and running hot
and cold water available to all
guests. Lending a rustic appear-
ance, though modern, a large,
cozy lobby with natural fire-
place reflects a quiet, dignified
and warm atmosphere. Reasonable
rates prevail and further infor-
mation can be had by writing Mr.
Lou Cassel at Lewiston, Mich.
