Samuel W. Leib in
Race for Congress

Samuel W. Leib, popular lo-
cal attorney, has announced his
candidacy for Congress in the
15th Congressional District and
is the only attorney among the
candidates on the Democratic
ticket. Born in Chicago, he has
resided in this city since 1911

SAmut.t. W. Laid

and attended the public schools
and Central High School. He was
an active member of the Philo-
mathic Debating Club, and is a
graduate of the University of
Michigan.
Mr. Leib is well known for his
loyal devotion to Jewish causes
over a period of many years. A
past president of Pisgah Lodge
of Bnai Brith, he is at present
first vice president of the Mich-
igan Council of Bnai Brith
Lodges and president of t h e

The Jewish National Fund
Council of Detroit announces the
planting of trees in forests in
Palestine, as follows:
In Meyer Berlin Forest: One
tree in honor of Yahrzeit of Frai-
del Chana Keidan by her daugh-
ter, Mrs. Goldie Blumenthal.
In Butzel Forest: One tree in
memory of Hannah London, by
Avoda Men's Club; two trees by
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Okrent in
honor of Rabbi and Mrs. Morris
Adler.
In J. H. Ehrlich Forest: Six
trees by Harry Cohen in mem-
ory of his sister, Mrs. Ella Lo-
raine.
To plant trees in Palestine for-
ests, call Mrs. Alexander W. San-
ders, Ho. 0967, 12342 Broad-
street.

Grand Lodge No. 6, and repre-
sents his lodge as a delegate to
the Jewish Community Council.
Early this year he was one of
the speakers on a Good Will pro-
gram of the Conference of Ca-
tholics, Jews and Protestants.
He has given unstintingly of his
time to manifold other Jewish
causes, including the Allied Jew-
ish Campaigns.
Mr. Leib also will be remem-
bered for his part in the recent
sueerssful campaign of Mayor
Edward J. Jeffries, Jr., having
served as manager of Mayor Jef-
fries-for-Mayor headquarters on
Dexter Blvd.
Believing that increased armed
forces are necessary to our ade-
quate defense, Mr. Leib heartily
indorses the principle of con-
scription. He advocates the sup-
pression of all subversive activi-
ties; promotion of the principle
of collective bargaining; protec-
tion of the worker over 40 and
prevention of unjust discrimina-
tion against employers of men
over 40, by making it a penal of-
fense for insurance companies to
increase insurance rates on such
employers. He is strongly in
favor of construction of the St.
Lawrence waterway and of gov-
ernment aid to "small business."
Mr. Leib states that, if elect-
ed, he will measure every act
by the Constitution of the United
States and the amendments there-
to, and not be a "rubber stamp"
Congressman.
