Posted in the synagogues throughout the United States, in connection with the observance of
Tisha b'Ab on Aug. 13, is a call of the Jewish National Fund urging further popular support for
the wartime program of the Jewish people's Fund for the acquisition of new land in the Jewish
National Home in Palestine. It enacts the historic scene which took place in the "King's Court
of the Guard", Jerusalem, during the siege and shortly before the fall of Judaea's capital.
When the Holy City was under siege, Jeremiah, obeying a divine command, sent for his dis-
ciple, Baruch, in order to execute a deed concerning the purchase by him of a tract of land in
Anathoth, the prophet's birthplace. Handing the (Iced to Baruch, Jeremiah then uttered this pro-
phetic message (seen above in its Hebrew text) as recorded in Jeremiah XXXII, 15:
"For thus had said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: Yet again shall there be bought houses
