Display the Flag!
Elsewhere in this issue appears an in-
teresting Flag Day appeal sponsored by
the State Department of Michigan of the
Jewish War Veterans of the United States,
with the cooperation of the Grand Army
of the Republic, the United Spanish-Amer-
ican War Veterans, the Disabled Ameri-
can Veterans of the World War, the Cath-
olic War Veterans of the United States
and the Veterans of Foregn Wars of the
United States.
The veterans urge the people of this
community to help make a national prac-
tice of the display of American Flags on
Flag Day, June 14—the tradition which
was founded at the suggestion of the late
venerable Jewish leader, Benjamin Al-
theimPr. By proclamation of Mayor Jef-
fries, the display of the Flag has betn
urged tor the week of June 8 to 14.
The Jewish community, in conjunction
with the city at large and as part of a
grertt national effort, should heed this
call. Let the Flag be seen and let it fly
high! This land is thr great oasis in a
desert of despair and the Flag is the sym-
bol of our freedom.
Let this symbol be seen. Let the tradi-
tion of Flag Day become a widely ob-
served tradition. Le there be repetition of
the pledge : "I pledge allegiance to the
Flag of the United States of America and
to the Republic for which it stands. One
r.2tion indivisible, with liberty and justice
for all."
An Internal Crisis
Regrettable ns it is that internal differ-
ences have crept into American Zionist
ranks at this time, it may be for the best
that the issue should be publicly aired in
order to assure the enforcement of the
reorganization plan proposed by Dr. Solo-
mon Goldman, who is concluding his sec-
ond term as president of the Zionist Or-
ganization of America. This is a time for
planning for the future, and Palestine
plays one of the most decisive roles in
this concern for what will come after the
world conflict. Therefore, internal order
must be considered of prime importance,
and the sooner our house is set in order,
the more effective will be our eventual
constructive programming for the Jewish
National Home.
The Zionist Organization of Detroit has
taken the only logical step open to Ameri-
can Zionists—the forming of an alignment
with those Zionists throughout the land
who are in favor of the Goldman Plan.
This proposal calls for unification of Zion-
ist efforts where duplications can be
avoided, for the installation of efficiencies
that are now lacking, for an increase in
educational activities.
Dr. Goldman's plan has the endorsement
of many Zionists. But there are some who
differ as to method of putting it into ef-
fect. That may necessitate the sponsoring
of candidates for office who are whole-

Shevuos and the Law
The Shevuous festival, which we are to
observe next Wednesday and Thursday,
represents the challenge of Hebraic tradi-
tion to the lawlessness which dominates
the world.
Shevuos is the festival commemorating
the giving of the Law to Israel—and
through Israel to mankind—on Sinai. It
marks the proclamation to the world that
law and order must guide humanity if
there is to be an end to the rule of the
jungle.
There is validity to the claim that the
Law as propagated by the Jewish people
has not yet been accepted by the world
at large; that we still have a great mis-
sion to mankind to teach the world the
need for a moral law which will obviate
the need for warfare and for greed.
The Law as handed down on Sinai is
now again being challenged by satanic
minds and satanic hordes. Once again we
are justified in saying that the Law of
Moses must be taught to the world in
order that the spirit of destruction may
be replaced by a desire to make men
free in an environment dominated by
good will and brotherly love.
This is a fight of the jungle against the
Law. The latter will triumph in spite of
the misery which the former inflicts upon
mankind.
Farband's Decisions
Interesting and important decisions have
been reached by the convention of the
Jewish National Workers' Alliance (Far-
band) held in this city during the last
week-end. This organization has entered
a . new field of endeavor by seeking to
counteract discrimination, especially prej-
udice against Jev, ish employees by Jewish
employers. It aims at constructive effort
by seeking to create a Farband colony in
Palestine to cost $100,000. It is on the
right track in aiming to enlist the co-
operation of the young people in this
movement. These recisions lend great sig-
nificance to the sessions held in Detroit.
"Fear Not"
A recent issue of the Christian Science
Monitor carried the following in a two-
column box over its editorial columns,
under the heading "Fear Not":
"And when the servant of the man of
God was risen early, and gone forth,
behold, an host compassed the city both
with horses and chariots. And his servant
said unto him, Alas, my master! how
shall we do?
"And he answered, Fear not: for they
that be with us are more than they that
be with them.
"And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I
pray thee, open his eyes; that he may
see. And the Lord opened the eyes of
the young man ; and he saw : and, behold,
the mountain was full of horses and char-
iots of fire round about Elisha."—II
Kings 6:15-17.
Herein is embodied consolation from
Scriptures which needs no further com-
ment. It is as true today as it was thou-
sands of years ago that "they that be
with us are more than they that be with
them." Since they who are with us stand
for human rights, they who seek to de-
stroy mankind's ideals must lose.'
"Fear not !"
These two words should be engraved
on every public thoroughfare in every
land which still stands for democratic
ideals. Those who stop fearing, who aban-
don fearthought and resort to forethought,
will be on the triumphant side of justice,
equality and fraternity.
