WASHINGTON ( WNS) —Fac-
ed with the problem of provid-
ing food and shelter for hun-
dreds of thousands of refugees
made homeless by the invasion
of the Netherlands, Belgium and
Northern France, the British and
Belgium Governments have open-
ed discussions with the State De-
partment on the possibility of
American aid.
Lord Lothian, British Ambas-
sador to the United States rep-

Ritual Murder Pogrom in
Warsaw
BELGRADE (WNS) — De-

tails of a fearful pogrom in
Nazi-occupied Poland, as a re-
sult of which one Jew was lynch-
ed, scores of Jews were beaten
and tortured in the streets of
Warsaw, were disclosed by a
refugee who recently arrived
here.
The pogrom occurred on the
eve of Passover when a Polish
child was found murdered. Polish
anti-Semites immediately invaded
the Jewish quarter and beat all
Jews on the streets. One Jew,
riding on a street car, was 'pulled
off the car and lynched, the
refugee said
A group of about 200 young
Jews immediately organized to
resist the auti-Semitic mob. Dur-
ing the melee, many of the anti-
Semites were beaten and started
to withdraw when Nazi police
arrived and seized the resisting
Jews. The Jews, the refugee said,
were lined up with their faces
to the wall and ordered to hold
their hands above their heads.
The Nazi police then fired into
the air. Several of the Jews were
reported to have suffered a
nervous breakdown as a result.
The refugee reported also that
there are about 20,000 Jewish
children, separated from their
parents by the war or concentra-
tion camps, wandering about the
highways of Nazi-held Poland.
These children move from village
to village begging for food and
clothing. Many of the children,
it was said, ary in need of medi-
cal attention.

CAMPAIGN WORKERS CONTINUE
SOLICITATION OF PROSPECTS

"The army of Allied Jewish Campaign workers is still
out in the field," stated Fred M. Butzel, who served as
chairman of the 1940 drive, "and the solicitors refuse to
close the campaign until every prospect slip has been covered
and the last dollar realized. So great a number of reports
have been turned in to campaign headquarters during the
past week that the amount to date substantially exceeds
the $717,618 announced at the campaign's official 'closing'
luncheon, on May 24. And, by the end of next week, w e
shall be able to announce a creditable total."
Campaign headquarters have been moved to the Jewish
Welfare Federation offices at 51 W. Warren Ave., Room 308,
and all solicitors, who have outstanding reports, are asked
to bring them, or mail them, to that address.
"Any member of the community, who has not yet been
personally approached by a campaign solicitor," continued
Mr. Butzel, "is invited to mail his subscription to Allied
Jewish Campaign headquarters, or telephone the office-

"Today, when the question uppermost in our minds is
'How can we help?' there is no Detroit Jew who will wish
to be left off the roster of Allied Jewish Campaign sub-
scribers. So, if your pledge has not yet been taken, please
cooperate by writing or phoning the campaign office."

officers were filed separately in
order to protect the police offi-
cers from an investigation. In
his testimony, Cassidy tried to
pin the guilt for the conspiracy
on, William Gerald Bishop, a co-
defendant, who has been desqrib-
ed as the "military genius' of
the Christian Frontists.
Cassidy denied ever hearing, at
meetings the Action Committee,
talk about "inciting the Jews and
Communists to revolution" and
overthrowing the Government. In
previous testimony, Government
witnesses said that the Christian
Frontists planned to incite the
Jews to riot and then stage a
counter-revolution with the Chris-
tian Front in control of the
country.
The Christian Front leader's
statement that 500 police officers
had filed membership blanks with
the anti-Semitic organization re-
called the investigation conduct-
ed last February by Police Com-
missioner Lewis J. Valentine to
discover the number of police of-
ficers in the Front. The Commis-
sioner reported that only 27 po-
licemen then admitted being
members of the Front. A total
of 407 policemen said they had
been granted membership but
that they had resigned volun-
tarily.
