DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and the Legal Chronicle

REPLY TO REVISIONISTS

Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle:
Undoubtedly the most intelli-
gent reaction of constructive Zi-
onists would be to completely
ignore the recent letter sent in
to you by a Revisionist. But to
do so would justify a second
letter from them claiming that
no one could refute their logic
that — firstly. while Jabotinsky
was in the United States every-
one in the Jewish press vied to
praise him; secondly, as soon
as Jabotinsky left everyone at-
tacked his followers. Therefore,
everyone is afraid of Jabotinsky,
his logic and his position.
Not only are the major and
minor premises wrong but the
whole tone of his letter is indica-
tive of a desire to raise petty
issues in order to receive pub-
licity for their martyrdom. We

admit that some Zionist leaders
held their breath in suspense,
waiting to hear what Jabotinsky
would say about Revisionism—
but he said nothing; which he is
brilliantly able to do. If the Re-
visionists want to date their mar-
tyrdom from the day their "Fueh-
rer" left America, that is their
privilege. They should be ex-
ceedingly happy to know that
they—the brown-shirted sheep of
Jewish life—are responsible for
united activity of all construc-
tive Zionists. But a good minority
must be clear in program, free
of contradiction, constructive in
thought and action. The letter of
our Revisionist was not this—in
fact it has had the effect of
driving Jews away from Zionism
as a whole.
Chazak Ve-Ematz,
YEHUDA SOLTER.

LINK REP. THORKELSON TO ACTIONS
COMMITTEE OF CHRISTIAN FRONT

NEW YORK. (WNS)—Repre-
sentative Jacob Thorkelson of
Montana, once considered by Sil-
ver Shirt Leader William Dudley
Pelley as a Presidential possibil-
ity, was linked to the Actions
Committee of the Christian Front
conspirators now on trial charged
with plotting to overthrow the
United States Government.
In a statement made to agents
of the Federal Bureau of Investi-
gation, Macklin Boettger, one of
the 16 defendants, declared that
he heard William Gerald Bishop,
another defendant, say that Con-
gressman Thorkelson was a mem-
ber of the Actions Committee of
the anti-Semitic group.
Bishop was reported to have
said also that he was on terms
of "close friendship" with Sen-
ators Reynolds of North Caro-
lina, Vandenberg of Michigan
and Wheeler of Montana.
Thorkelson Defends Frontists but
Denies Any Connection
With Plotters
WASHINGTON. ( W N S )-
Representative Jacob Thorkelson,
who has on several occasions ad-
dressed meetings of the Chris-
tian Front and who has persist-
ently defended the 16 anti-Sem-
itic plotters now on trial in
Brooklyn Federal Court, termed
a "pure fabrication" the state-
ment of one of the defendants
linking the Congressman with the
Christian Front.

Thorkelson said, however, that
the notion that the 16 defendants
would overthrow by force the
United States Government was
"laughable". Declaring that the
government was wasting its time
prosecuting the Christian Fornt,
the anti-Semitic Congressman re-
called the statement which he put
into the Congressional Record on
Feb. 2.
The Congressman said that he
opposed Communism, Nazism and
Fascism but considered the lat-
ter two milder than Communism
and declared that "the Justice
Department should go after the
Communists."
Spokesmen for Senators Rob-
ert R. Reynolds, Arthur A.
Vandenberg and Burton K.
Wheeler, who were mentioned as
friends of William Gerald Bish-
op, one of the Christian Front
defendants, denied that there was
any such "friendship".
Senator Barbour Introduces Bill
to Bar "Hatred" From Mails
Senator W. Warren Barbour
of New Jersey has introduced a
bill which would bar from the
mails forged material or any
type of publication tending to in-
cite racial or religious hatred.
The bill would bar all seditious
matter from the mail even though
the material were inserted in the
Congressional Record.
