M. Franklin will discuss some

ation or Non-Resistance." The
subject will be dealt with from
the standpoint of history, theol-
ogy and ethics. Services begin
at 8 o'clock. All are welcome.

"TEVYA" CONTINUES AT CINEMA
THROUGH SUNDAY, MAY 5

The great Yiddish film "Tevya"
based on the famous Sholem
Aleichem story "Tevya der Mil-
chiger," opened at the Cinema
Theater on Thursday and will
continue tl•entice week and
through Sunday, May 5.
"Tevya" is not only one of
the very best Yiddish films ever
produced; it is one of the most
effective dramatizations ever seen
on the screen.
With the great Yiddish actor
Maurice Schwartz in the title
role, this film is a touching pot.-

trayal of life in Russia, of Jewish
devotion to farming, of amicable
relations with their Christian
neighbors — until Russian anti-
Semitism sets in to drive them
out of the villages.
The story also has as its cen-
tral theme an intermarriage angle
and the tragedy it brings to a
Jewish family. But true loyal-
ties triumph in the end.
Comment on "Tevya" will be
found in the "Purely Commen-
tary" column in this issue of The
Detroit Jewish Chronicle.

ganization. He said that the Front
had about 1,000 members in Es.
sex, Union and Hudson Counties
and that it was not officillly con.
nected with any other Christian
Front movement in any other
state.
He later admitted, however,
that its aims corresponded with
those of similar Christian Front
groups elsewhere.
It was learned also that a
Newark detective reported, after
the FBI investigation, that sev-
eral members of the Police De-
partment participated in a dance
sponsored here by the Christian
Front. Officials of the Police De-
partment refused to say what
action would be taken against
members of the department who
were enrolled in the Christian
Front.

Christian Front Plotters Boasted
They Would "Eradicate Jews,"
FBI Man Says

NEW YORK. — (WNS)
Several of the 16 members of the
Christian Front standing trial in
Brooklyn Federal Court for con-
soiling to overthrow by force the
United States Government boasted
that they would "eradicate the
Jews" and "take over the coun-
try," according to the testimony
of Peter J. Wacks, a special agent
of the Federal Bureau of Investi-
gation.
The FBI agent, who corrob-
orated most of the testimony given
earlier in the trial by Denis A.
Healy, a National Guardsman who
kept the FBI informed of the
movements of the Christian Front
plotters, said that he heard Claus
G. Ernecke, a defendant who
hanged himself last week, talk
about blowing up utility plants,

"Boys Will Be Acquitted," Assure
Speakers at Christian Front

Meetings
Speakers at recent meetings of
the Christian Front have assured
cheering audiences that there is
no doubt whatever in their minds
about the ultimate acquittal of
the 16 Christian Front plotters
on trial on charges of conspiring
to overthrow the national Gov-
ernment.
At a meeting here John Scan-
lan, active in the Christian Front
movement, told a gathering of
several hundred that, although
certain Catholic priests are still
refusing to assist the accused' con-
spirators, certain other repre-
sentatives of the Catholic Church
are actively continuing their ef-
forts in behalf of the defendants.
According to The Hour, anti-
Nazi weekly, a special campaign
is in the process of formation
against Dr. Harry D. Gideonse,
president of Brooklyn College,
who, the Christian Fronters de-
clare, will be made "to eat his
words against the Front." An-
other Christian Front drive is
aimed at Mayor LaGuardia and
Police Commissioner Lewis J.
Valentine for their anti -F ront
measures and utterances.
