The speakers at this meeting
were Sidney L. Alexander and
Isidore Sobeloff. A. J. Lachover
stated that in addition to the
large organizational gifts which
the various groups will contri-
bute to the campaign, the indi-
vidual members will contribute
generously as individuals, and
the organizational gifts will not
be used as an excuse for failing
to make individual gifts.
Sunday afternoon, April 14,
a mass meeting was held at Con-
gregation Mishkan Israel, under
the auspices of the Synagogue
Committee of the Allied Jewish
Campaign. This committee is
headed by Rabbi Isaac Stollman.

are cooperating wholeheartedly
with the 1940 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, and that a large number
of congregations have already
decided on large congregational
gifts to the drive. In a letter to
the campaign, Louis Kramer,
treasurer of Congregation Beth
Tefilo Emanuel, stated that his
congregation will contribute the
amount of $600 to this year's
humanitarian drive.

Captains and officers of or
ganizations gathered at the Jew-
ish Children's Home on Sunday
morning, April 14, to consider
important problems pertaining to
the 1940 Allied Jewish Campaign,
at which time slips were assigned
to the captains for the solicita-
tion of members of their re-
spective groups.
Officers of various organiza-
tions announced and signed the
organization pledges from the
general treasuries of their
groups. Among the leading or-
ganizations which contributed
$1,000 each, are the Yiddish
Folks Verein and the Pinsker
Progressive Aid Society. Myron
A. Keys and Joseph Bernstein
are co-chairmen of the organiza-
tion's division of the drive.

of Gladstone Ave., age 22, died

April 17. He is survived by his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius
Sonne. He was a member of sev-

The Detroit Junior Service
Group invites all young Jewish
men and women to participate
in a pep rally on Sunday, April
28, at 2:30 p. m. in the audi-
torium of the Aaron DeRoy Me-
morial Building of the Jewish
Community Center, Woodward
at Holbrook. At this meeting
the opening gun will be fired
for the Junior Division of the
1940 Allied Jewish Campaign.
As principal speaker, Isidore
Sobeloff, executive director of
the Jewish Welfare Federation,
will discuss the part youth is
expected to play in the coming
drive.
The entire program for the
afternoon has been planned
around the theme of a "third"
Seder by Max Chomsky, chair-
man of the program committee.
The afternoon's festivities will
also include a playlet directed

by Samuel II. Sheplow featur-
ing Miss Edith Miskin and Julius
Blake. The audience will join
in a community sing.
"This is young Jewry's oppor-
tunity to help alleviate the hun-
ger, sickness, and oppression of
their brothers abroad," stated
Maurice A. Glasier, president of
the Detroit Junior Service Group
who is also serving as chairman
of the Junior Division in the
1940 Allied Jewish Campaign.
"The Junior Service Group of-
fers young people the means of
giving service to the hunted and
homeless whose lives depend up-
on it. The time has come for
youth today, to merge their sym-
pathies and energies, time and
money in behalf of the great
humanitarian causes embraced in
the 1940 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign."

Hyman Altman Makes Miss Flora Beckman
Mo'os Chitim Appeal To Be Soloist in
Ypsilanti April 21
Gets Many Donations As Result

of Radio Plea

On radio Station WMBC, last
Saturday night, over the facili-
ties of Altman's Jewish Radio
Period, Hyman Altman made an
eloquent appeal for Mo'os Chi-
tim donations. his talk was so
touching that within 15 minutes
over a hundred donations were
phoned in to the radio station.
It is reported that daily dona-
tions have continued and have
been phoned in to Mr. and Mrs.
Altman's residence during the
entire week.

Miss Flora Beckman, well
known artiste-pupil of Mischa
Kottler, will be presented as
guest soloist with the Symphony
Orchestra at the Michigan Nor-
mal College, Ypsilanti, on Sun-
day. April 28, at 3 p. m.
Miss Beckman, who was a
child prodigy and gave her first
piano recital at the Art Museum
when she was 12 years old, re-
ceived high acclaim from Sig-
