When the Society undertook to
publish "Ethics of Judaism" by
Prof. Moritz Lazarus, Miss Szold
undertook the translation of the
manuscript from the German,
and the first two volumes of
"Ethics of Judaism" were pub-
lished in 1900 and 1901.
Her name is closely associated
with the finest work ever writ-
ten on the Agada, "The Legends
of the Jews" by Prof. Louis
Gin zberg. Her name appears on
the title page as the translator

of Volume I in 1909 and Vol.

MISS HENRIETTA SZOLD

Publication Society, at its sec-
ond meeting on Aug. 19, 1888,
as a member of the first publica-
tion committee. With her were
elected at that time Dr. Cyrus
Adler, then of Baltimore ; Dr.
Charles Gross, of Cambridge,
Mass. ; Dr. A. S. Isaacs, of New
York ; the Rev. Dr. Marcus Jas-
trow, of Philadelphia ; Simon A.
Stern, of Philadelphia, and Judge
Mayer Sulzberger, of Philadel-
phia, as chairman. She and
Dr. Adler remain as the sole
survivors of that group. Miss
Szold served continuously on the
publication committee from 1888
until 1931, when her duties in
Palestine required all of her
time and energy.
