democracy so dear to all true
Americans."

The 1940 Allied Campaign

The Federation president laud-
ed the Detroit Service Group,
the Federation's fund - raising
amr. He recalled the fact that
19,080 contributors enrolled in
the 1939 Allied Jewish Campaign
conducted by the Jewish Welfare
Federation, for the amount of
$651,000, which was $260,000
more than Detroit's best previ-
ous experience.
"Based on our local Jewish
population, this seems incredible,"
said Mr. Srere. "It means that
practically every Jewish family
in our community had at least
one contributor, and many two
Pr three, to the drive.
"It would be disregarding world
events to imagine that this great
advance, in amount raised and
the number of contributors en-
listed was due only to campaign
organization, but it is a tribute
to the Detroit Service Group and
its army of fine workers that the
city was canvassed thoroughly
and effectively. The Detroit Jun-
ior Service Group, which has
great potentialities, also deserves
a large share of the credit for
this magnificent job. Our leaders
of tomorrow will be graduates of
that group."
