The Jewish Community Center
has been honored with an invita-
tion from the Amateur Athletic
Union, to hold the 1940 City
Doubles Handball Tournament on
its handball courts. The Center
is a member of the Michigan A.
A. U., and its parent organiza-
tion, the Jewish Welfare Board,
is a constituent supporting mem-
ber of the National A. A. U.
Some of the outstanding hand-
ball players who are expected to
compete are: Al Zerbo and Dr.
Milton Lappin, national Y. M. C.
A. doubles champions for the past
two years; Lou and Harry Zerbo,

outstanding singles players; Her-
man "Lefty" Dworman, eight
times national doubles champion,
and Leo Dressler, former State
doubles champ..
The Center expects that the
tournament will have 32 teams
when it gets underway on March
30. The first round will be player
half on Saturday night and half
on Sunday afternoon. There will
be no play on Wednesday eve-
ning, April 3, because the Center
handball committee feels that
there should be one day of rest
between the quarter-finals and
the semi-finals.
