French Jews Issue Manifesto campaign in French territory on
Condemning Persecution stirring up separatist movements

PARIS (WNS)—A manifesto
against Nazi persecution was pub-
lished by the Consistoire Israelite
of France and Algeria over the
signatures of Baron Edouard de
Rothschild, Chief Rabbi Issaye
Schwartz and other Jewish lead-
ers. It expressed the sympathy of
French Jews for "all the victims
of the Nazis in Austria, Czecho-
slovakia and Poland."
Meanwhile, H ear i Kerillis,
prominent French editor and par-
liamentarian, in an editorial ap-
pearing in L'Epoque, charged that
Nazi propagandists have been
concentrating their anti-Semitic

in Alsace, Tunis, Morocco, and
Algeria and urges that anti-Sem-
itism be fought in France, Eng.
land and America as a tool used
by Hitler, Goebbels and Ribben-
trop to destroy unity within dem-
ocratic nations.

Shechita is the slaughter of
those animals permitted to the
orthodox Jews as food, according
to a prescribed ritual. The ex-
haustive regulations covering the
Shechita are found in the Oral
Law, namely in the Talmud, the
Tosefta, and the Jewish Codes
and Rabbinic Responsa. The
Shechita is performed by an or-
dained slaughterer, the Shochet.
