Members of Knights of Judaea,
one of the first Young Judaea
groups to be organized in De-
troit—in 1918—held a reunion
on Tuesday evening at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Sol Slomovitz,
2960 Tyler Ave.
Convening on the occasion of
the visit to Detroit of Dr. A.
Morris Targow of Chicago, for-
mer Detroiter and one of the
organizers of the club, who was
on the way to Los Angeles, Calif.,
with Mrs. Targow and their
(laughter, Patricia, the gathering
honored the Targows by planting
eight trees in their honor in the
Fred M. Butzel Forest in Pales-
tine. Dr. Targow will assume the
post of chief of the allergy staff
at the new Mt. Sinai Hospital in
Los Angeles.
Under the chairmanship of
Morris Waxman, the reunited
Knights of Judaea reminisced and
resolved to meet regularly to en-
courage present Young Judaea
work in Detroit. Their gathering
was like the rewriting of a page
of community history in Detroit.
Having been among the most ac-
tive youth groups in the city
20 years ago, the boys—then in
their first year in high school—
won pennants for baseball cham-
pionships and cups in football
league.
In addition to addresses by
former members, the reunion
was addressed by Samuel Hey-
man and Philip Slomovitz, for-
mer leaders of the club.
Nathan Zack was selected sec-
retary of the reunited group,
Among those who reminisced
at the gathering were Sol Slomo-
vitz, Louis Zack, Julius Kabat-
sky, Sam Firestone, Nathan Zack,
Morris Waxman, Aaron Lippin,
David Cooper, Arthur Robbins,
Morris Sills, Alan Sloan and Dr.
Alfred Honigman.

Meet Monday

Neugarten Sunshine Club will
meet at the new Jewish Commu-
nity Center next Monday morn-

Luncheon on Feb. 6

and Its Ladies' Auxiliary
to Elect Officers
Harry M. Figot, president of
Mlawer Umgegend Verein,
called a special meeting for Sun-
day evening, Jan. 7, for the pur-
pose of electing officers.
On Sunday evening, Jan. 21, the
Verein will give its sixth annual
ball at the Book Cadillac Hotel
in the Crystal Balroom. Dave Dia-
mond in person and his orchestra
will provide the music. There will
be prizes for the best dancing
couple and the prettiest girl on
the floor. Abe Greenbaum and
Mrs. H. Mintz are chairmen of
this affair.
The Ladies' Auxiliary will meet
at the home of Mrs. I. Levinthal,
9325 Martindale, on Jan. 9, when
election of officers will take place.
The Ladies' Auxiliary is busy
with plans for their first donor
luncheon to take place on Wed-
nesday, Feb. 28, at the Wilshire.
Mrs. A. Shanbom is chairman of

Kvutzah Ivrith will hold its an-
nual donor luncheon on Tuesday,
Feb. 6, at Lachar's Hall on Cass
Ave.
Herman Jacobs, director of the
Jewish Community Center, will
be the guest speaker. Cantor J.
H. Sonenklar will sing. Aaron
Rosenberg and Bernard Isaacs
will also be on the program.
The Kvutzah Ivrith is made
up of the teachers of the United
Hebrew Schools and others who
have a speaking command of He-
brew who meet weekly to study
along definite lines in Hebrew
lore and modern Hebrew litera-
ture. They sponsor numerous
public lectures during the year
at the United Hebrew Schools
and at these meetings present to
the public outstanding Hebrew
lecturers and writers.
The Ladies' Auxiliary helps the
men's organization defray its ex-
penses, subsidize a Hebrew week-
ly and contributes textbooks • to
the children in the United He-
brew Schools.
