American Academy for
Jewish Research Has
20th Anniversary

American Academy for Jewish
Research observed the 20th .an-
niversary of its founding at a
dinner at the Jewish Theological
Seminary here this week.

The French version of "Forty
L. M." shown in this country
with English sub-titles has been
withdrawn from circulation by
Edwin Fadiman of National Pic-
tures in order to play up possi-
bilities of the Eddie Cantor ve-
hicle.

The Academy was organized
in 1919 to encourage scholarly
research in Jewish history, lit-
erature and religion and to train
Younger Jewish scholars. Prof.
Louis Ginzberg, president, was
chairman at the dinner.

Agency) — It is learned that
certain big Eastern Mediter•an-
ean country has placed an inquiry
with the Jewish Agency for 15
different types of pharmaceutical
preparations, previously supplied
by Germany, and that the Sieff
Research Institute, of which the
principal director is Dr, Chaim
Weiziminn, is now engaged in its
scientific investigation of the pos-
sibility of manufacturing them.
There r u e numerous scientists and
experts now in Palestine who oc-
cupied important positions in the
German chemicals industry, and
they can furnish invaluable help
to the growing industry here.
A sub-committee of the Central
Medical Council of the Vaad Leu-
mi has consulted with the Pales-
tine Jewish Medical Association
on the possibilities of producing
various types of vaccines in the

The study program of the
Music Study Club of Detroit will
be held in the Butzel Assembly
Hall of the Jewish Community
Center, Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 2:30
p. m.
Carl G. Wonnlwrger, director
of drama at Cranbrook, will lec-
ture on the subject "The Thea-
ter in America—Sick, Dying or
Dead?" Mr. Wonnberger, aside
from his present position at Cran-
brook, is chairman of the com-
mittee on drama of the National
Council of Teachers of English.
He has coached and taught dra-
matics for 18 years. His main
interest at - present is promoting
the amateur theater.
Guests are welcome to the
lecture at a nominal fee.
