CHARMING BRIDE

MIAMI BEAM

0

The last meeting of the mem-
bership committee of the United
Hebrew Schools was held at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Albert E.
Bernstein. While it was called
for the purpose of strengthening
the Membership enrollment en-
deavor, it turned out to be a fine
educational gathering.
The theme of the evening was
Chanpkah. It opened with a play-
let staged by Dr. and Mrs. Bern-
stein's children, Sander, Miriam
and Marvin. They gave a parody
in Hebrew of the famous story
known as "Hannah and Her
Seven Sons," which depicts the
supreme [sacrifice brought by
mother and sons on the altar of
Judaism.
The meeting was opened by the
chairman of the membership
committee, Rudolph Zuieback,
who introduced Dr. Beinstein as
chairman of the evening.
Bernard Isaacs pointed to the
important place of the mother,
as depicted by the story of "Han-
nah and Her Seven Sons," and
the place of the father, as illus-
trated in the history of "Matta-
thias and His Five Sons." Other
speakers were Rabbi Harold N.
Rosenthal, Arthur Lang, Dr. A.
E. Bernstein, B. Lemberg, Ru-
dolph Zuieback, Maurice Lan-
dau and Abraham J. Lachover.
The next meeting of the mem-
bership campaign will be held
Thursday evening, Jan. 4, at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Kasle,

Few novels of recent years
have been marked by so thought-
provoking a message as Charles
Francis Stocking's "Out of the
Dust," which was just published
by the Maestro Co., Monadnock
Block, Chicago, Ill.
It is an amazing story of Nazi
machinations, the threats to our
civilization, the forces that con-
spired to give rise to Ilitlerism,
the attempts of the underground
movement to destroy the Hitler
menace and the effects of the
struggle upon Americans.
"Out of the Dust" also has a
most interesting plot. It is the
story of an American war vet-
eran who is asked to participate
in a veterans' parade, at first
refuses but then consents in or-
der to satisfy a friend, and in
preparation for the march dis-
covers in his uniform an inden-
tification disc of a German sol-
dier who died at his hands. He
immediately leaves for Germany
to locate the survivors of the
soldier, and to make his amends.
He meets the soldier's fiancee
who went mad because she
was unable to locate him. He
poses as her lost lover, marries
her and his association with ]ter
brother then leads him into active
political work in Germany.
An interesting record develops
