So That TheyWon t "Wish TheyWere Dead"

There is a lot of misery that has to be wiped off Detroit's records—
nobody likes misery and, when we actually see "down and miters," well,
guess we all feel sorry. But just feeling sorry doesn't put things right.
We have a greater responsibility. You know it is our job, yours and
mine, to see that these unfortunate folks who need our help don't lose
hope. You just remember that life deals its cards without picking
favorites . . . and don't kid yourself for a moment into thinking that
these people who need your help can possibly get along without this
charity. In a great many cases it's a matter of life or death. You're help-.
ing Americans and you're giving your fellow citizens a lift. You're just
aiding them over a few rough spots and then, when they're hack on
their feet (and it is really gratifying to note that the American spirit is
hard to break) it is nice to feel down deep in your heart that you've
done your share.

Now, remember, the Detroit Community Fund represents 80 agencies
of help and mercy throughout the city, all of which arc financed in

whole or part by the fund. The 22nd annual campaign for money, with
which to carry on next year, will begin Monday, November 6.

Don't forget who you are and what you stand for, and with that one
thought in mind, that you are a human being, spare what you can of
your good fortune and give ... the Anierican Way!

Every Cent Goes for Charity

Your every cent, your every dollar, goes 100% to the 80 agencies
represented by the Detroit Community Fund. Not one penny of
your money is used to pay for this campaign. All overhead expenses
of the fund have been previously underwritten by prominent citizens
of this city.
