ZIONIST BALL THIS SATURDAY
Rachmaninoff with
Symphony Nov. 16
Sergei Rachmaninoff, one of
the foremost musicians that Rus-
sia has yet produced, will be the
feature attraction of an all-Rus-
sian program to be played at
8:30 p. m., Thursday, Nov. 16,
by the Detroit Symphony Orches-
tra in Masonic Auditorium. The
great triple-threat of music, com-
poser-pianist-conductor, will be
heard as soloist is his own Third
Concerto, in D Minor, for Piano
and Orchestra, Op. 30.
Victor Kolar will conduct this
concert, making his first appear-
ance of the season before the
Thursday night subscription audi-
ence.
Particular attention is being
centered on Rachmaninoff this
year because of the Rachmanipoff
Cycle to be held this winter in
New York, making the 30th an-
niversary of the artist's first ap-
pearance in concert in the United
States. The 66-year-old master
musician for more than a score
of years has been one of the most
popular recitalists music has
known and is certain to play to
crowded auditoriums wherever he
goes. To millions who may be un-
familiar with his other works, he
is known as the composer of the
famous C-sharp Minor Prelude.
