The war has provided the best
possible break for Metro's "Thun-
der Afloat," a submarine-chasing
story, and for Charlie Chaplin's
"The Dictator"—if he can man-
age to shoot it here before the
shooting stops over there. In what
he had considered his final script,
Chaplin.--414,11 slewiehs tailor who
doubles for Hitler—was to have
averted a war by double-crossing
Der Adolf at an international
pow-wow. Now he'll probably
turn the picture into a, tragedy
and cheat the little tailor of his
triumph. And if Italy remains on
its good behavior, the representa-
tion of Mussolini also will be
toned down.
Harry Cohn, Columbia Pictures

contemplates no change in pro-
duction, In spite of the war situa-
tion in Europe, he said, "we are

matter of fact we plan a bigger

Ile was of the opinion that one
of the effects of the war will be
a change in the trend of stories.

Jewish physicians during the
Middle Ages were sometimes
falsely accused of having poi-
soned a patient. Such accusations
arose from popular prejudice as
well as from professional jeal-
ousy. One Jewish physician when
only 24 years of age, was ar-
rested in Palermo (Sicily) on a
Poison charge and condemned to
death. (1430). On the eve of his
execution the young physician
spent his last hours composing
an elaborate poem in which he
declares his innocence. He also
tells as he could have saved his
life by becoming an apostate but
this he steadfastly refused to do
