European Jewish Communities to meet the initial stages of the
war emergency, but that it is imperative that additional funds be
forthcoming from Jews of the world, especially in the United
States.
The HIAS-ICA Emigration Association, acting on thd French
government's wishes to have potential emigrants out at harbors
where they could await steamships, was said to be speeding up
the work of organizing transports of refugees, all of whom hold
valid visas for overseas lands, to reach Le Havre and Bordeaux.
Edouard Oungre of Paris and James L. Bernstein of New York,
directors of the organization, are supervising the work to make
possible the evacuation of ninny aged refugees who have visas
for countries abroad, including the United States. Oungre and
Bernstein are staying on in Paris working with a reduced staff,
most of the personnel having been mobilized for active service.
The Paris headquarters of the OSE, Jewish health society,
received applications from 200 refugee physicians for volunteer
service with the French government.
Hitler Holds Jews Responsible for Allies' Entry into War
Declaring that the "Jewish plutocratic and democratic upper
crust" was responsible for the Allies' declaration of war against
the Reich, Chancellor Adolf Hitler, broadcasting an appeal to the
German people, said:
"The German people know that the British people as a whole
cannot be made responsible for all this. It is the Jewish plutocratic
and democratic upper crust which, in all peoples of the world,
desires to see only obedient slaves and which hates our new Reich
because it sees in it a model for social work which it fears because
it might prove contagious also in their country."

Reich Jews Fear Nazi Reprisals
AMSTERDAM. (WNS)-Although ordinary telephone service
between Holland and Germany is said to be normal, contact be-
tween Dutch and German Jewish organizations and individuals was
terminated suddenly (Tuesday) when exchanges at Berlin and
Cologne told callers they are forbidden to connect the numbers
of Jewish organizations, Such contacts had been possible until
Tuesday night. It was impossible to get through calls to the Reichs-
vereinigung des Juden in Deutschland, central organization of Reich
Jews, or •with Jewish individuals in Germany by mail or telegraph.
There is no news in the press here on the situation of Jews In
the Reich.
Meanwhile Jewish circles here were apprehensive of the posi-
tion of German Jews in the Reich, fearing that the Nazis may
take serious action against the Jews there, particularly Zionist
leaders, because of the formation in Palestine of a Jewish legion
to aid Britain. Front Cologne a broadcast reported outbreaks of

violence by Jews against Germans in Palestine, particularly in Tel
Aviv where, according to the broadcast, mobs from the all-Jewish
city destroyed the whole German colony of Samna. The broadcast
asserted that the leader of the colony, Wuertemberg, was forced
to escape in an Italian airplane. Verification of these reports was
not available from. Palestine.
It was learned that in Berlin all able-bodied Jews and Jewesses
are being drafted for forced labor projects and that such enforce-
ment is proceeding on a large scale. Projects include road-building,
house construction for men, factory work in the garment industry
for women.
Although conscripted Jewish workers are kept segregated and
work separately, it is said that they are being paid at the same rate
us "aryans" and are treated the same. Twenty-six of 350 Kultur-
bund (Jewish cultural association) employees were drafted for
manual labor, shutting down completely, by order of the Reich
Propaganda Ministry, the activities of the Kulturbund, including
its theater and cinema. The Propaganda Ministry also ordered the
Juedisches Nachrichtenblatt, German Jewry's only newspaper, re-
duced to four pages instead of the usual 12 to 16 and to appear
only on Tuesdays and Fridays. It was hinted that further reduction
or possible total suspension might be ordered.

Polish Federation Speeds Aid to Polish Jewry
NEW YORK. (WNS)-In response to hundreds of requests
for Information regarding the possibility of sending relief money
to Poland, the Federation of Polish Jews in America announced
here that at present it is in a position to transmit contributions
to Poland by cable. Aroused by the fate confronting the 3,000,000
Jews in Poland, the Federation has set its entire relief machinery
in operation for the purpose of rendering every aid to Polish
Jewry while there is still an opportunity to do so. Z. Tygel, execu-
tive director of the Federation, said that officers of the organization
have been in constant touch with representatives of the Polish
government here since the moment Nazi troops invaded Polish
territory.

Palestine Jewry Mobilizes for War
JERUSALEM. (WNS-Palcor Agency)-Moving on two fronts
to consolidate the Jewish position in Palestine and to rally to the
defense of Great Britain, the Jewish Agency for Palestine, acting
in concert with the national bodies of Palestine Jewry, undertook
a two-fold program. This involved the security and economic posi-
tion of the Yishuv and the rendering to the British Army in
Palestine of any service that might be called for.
At the some time the Jewish Agency called the war between
England and Nazi Germany "our battle".
Strengthening of the Yishuv's position during the conflict
was mapped at a Joint meeting of the Executive of the Jewish
Agency and the Vaad Leumi held at the Jewish Agency offices.
The meeting dealt with the emergency position created by the
declaration of war. It decided, among other things, to hold a
registration of men and women volunteers for national service
during the emergency period.
The volunteers will be enlisted: First, to serve the Yishuv
in the fields of security and economics' and other public require-
ments; and secondly, to render to the British Army in Palestine
any service it may call for,
All men and women aged 18 to 50 enlisting in the volunteer
forces will be required to furnish full details, technical qualifica-
tions and special experience, indicating the task in which the
volunteer is prepared to serve the Yishuv and the British Army.
shouy.
The detailsof the requirements are expected to be announced

Thursday, "Our Casualties in the
War"; and Friday, "Reconstruc-
tion". In the afternoon, after
Mincha, he will speak in Yid-
dish. Saturday morning Shabbos
Shuvah, Rabbi Wohlgelernter
will deliver the traditional dis-
course in Halacha and Agada.
Rabbi Joseph Eisenman will de-
liver a Shabbos Shuva Drosho in
the afternoon.
