LONDON. (WNS•Palcor Agen-
cy) — Categorical denial was
made in the House of Commons
by Colonial Secretary Malcolm
MacDonald of charges prearred
by Haifa Christian leaders
against the Jewish supernumer-
aries of that city, in which re-
cent bomb outrages have taken
a high toll of Arab life. Captain
A. II. M. Ramsay, Conservative,
had asked whether the Colonial
Secretary had given considera-
tion to the letter addressed to
High Commissioner Sir Harold
MacMichael by the religious
leaders of the Christian com-
munities of Haifa charging the
Jewish supernumeraries with
having been the authors of the
bomb outrages in Haifa. lie also
wanted to know what action the
government proposed to take in
the matter.
Mr. MacDonald replied that
the High Commissioner had re-
ceived such a letter signed by
the local representatives of the
Christian churches of Haifa and
making general allegations
against the Jewish supernumer-
aries. The High Commissioner,
he said, was satisfied that the
allegations were untrue.

DETROIT, MICHIGAN, FRIDAY, JULY 14, 1939

Detroit Jews Are Warned Against
Misrepresentation by Solicitors .

In his principal address ■
at the sessions of the convene
lion of District Grand Lodge No. 6 of Bnai Brith, Henry
Monsky, president of the order, warned against fly-hp-night
organizations that are capitalizing on anti-Semitism and are
creating • racket by soliciting funds under false pretenses.

Solicitors for I out-of-town English-Jewish week-
lies are also attenuating to capitalise on Jewish woes by
misrepresenting their missions in attempts to collect funds.
Instead of trying to sell their papers in a legitimate way
by securing subscribers, these solicitors ask for contributions
in sums three or four times the amount of the regular sub-
scription price of their papers to fight anti-Semitism.

Detroit Jews are warned not to be misled by the
tactics of these salesmen. There are in existence important
movements like the Bnai Brith, the American Jewish Con-
gress, the American Jewish Committee, the Jewish Labor
Committee--all through the General Jewish Council—and
locally the Jewish Community Council of Detroit, which de-
vote themselves, through recognised spokesmen, to the task
of fighting against discrimination, Claims of newspaper
solicitors that they are engaged in such • fight on their own
responsibility constitut e misrepresentation of fact.

LONDON. (WNS)—A govere-

despite demands from all parts
of the House of Lord, for a
more liberal policy toward refu-

either to loosen existing restric-

Spread of anti-Semitic terror-

Similar incidents have been
reported for a number of weeks
in New York. In several in-

only beaten but also slashed.
