(WNS) — Dr.1 Max Winkler, economist and ad- viser to the Research Depart- ment of the Non-Sectarian Anti- Nazi League, in a report' pre- pared for the League indicating the effect of the anti-Nazi Boy- cott on German trade, predicts a trade collapse for Germany's Third Reich. According to Dr. Winkler's re- port, the total trade deficit of the Reich last year was four and a half times as large as that reported by official German statistics. Although Germany's adverse balance of trade for 1938 ia officially reported at RM 192,000,000, Dr. Winkler points out that a careful exam- i nation of the nature of Ger many's foreign trade reveals that the actual trade deficit is RM 880,300,000. A statement by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, chairman of the Joint Boycott Council, reveals that German exports to they Americas for the first quarter! of 1939 were valued at 182.6 million marks as compared with 228.1 millions for the same ye- riod of 1938, a drop of 45.5 million marks. He said this drop was due to increasing dissatis- faction in South and Central America with Germany's bilateral trade agreements which have made those countries greatly de- pendent upon imports from Ger- many in order to use up blocked mark accounts. I Killed in Escape A German-Polish Border WARSA (WNS) — Profea- Nioisi Schorr, president of the union of Jewish organizations caring for Jewish refugees in Poland, disclosed that he was in- formed that a group of 140 Jews, pursued across the Polish bor- der from Germany, had brought with them the bodies of several killed by shots at the Silesian frontier. He was unable to de- t ermine, however, whether the fugitives were slain by German police , or by Polish guards de- f ending the frontier. Word from Berlin said that mass deportation of Polish Jewe had broken out anew and that hundreds had been driven. across the border and an estimated thousand arrested by Nazi au- thorities and held for deporta- tion to Poland shortly. Among the 140 who now wan- der about the Polish border are blind and aged women and men who were taken from their beds and during the night packed into trains headed for the border.
