of the National Negro Congress,
will be the guest at a reception
to be given by the Detroit sec-
tion of the American League for
Peace and Democracy, on Mon-
(lay, June 12, at 8:30 p. na, at
the Lucy Thurman Y. W. C. A.
The reception will follow his ad-
dress on the "Democracy Speaks"
program from 7:30 to 8 p.
on Monday.
Dr. Yergan has dedicated his
life to Y. M. C. A. work and to
the advancement of the colored
race. For over 20 years he was
secretary of the Y. M. C. A. in
southwest Africa and the Na-
tional Association for Advance-
ment of Colored People awarded
him the Spingarn Medal.
In 1939, Dr. Yergan received
the Harrison Award, which recog-
nized him as a Negro who ren-
dered the most significant serv-
ice to humanity in that year.
At present Dr. Yemen is a
member of the national board of
the League for Peace and De-
mocracy, and he lectures regu-
larly at City College of New
York.
