Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle:
In behalf of the Arrangements
Committee for the Dorothy
Thompson meeting, I wish to con-
vey our appreciation to you for
the important part which you
played in helping to make this
meeting a success.
The meeting held in Olympia
on March 17 was of national
significance. It was the largest
demonstration ever held in De-
troit against fascism and racial
intolerance, and its importance,
coming at this tittle, cannot be
overestimated.
Again we thank you for your
valuable assistance.
Sincerely yours,
REV. OWEN A. KNOX,
Chairman.

cerning its "Aryanization." Jews
have been eliminated from . the
committee of the various organi-
zations of the sugar industry in
"adapting themselves to 'changed
conditions," and the Prague
Chamber of Engineers has asked
its "non-Aryan" members volun-
tarily to "liquidate enterprises
immediately" and to appoint "Ar-
yan" substitutes to complete un-
finished business. Dr. Eckstein,
general secretary of the Stock
Exchange, and two Jewish direc-
tors of the famous Rudolf Masse
publishing firm have been dui-
placed and in the large book and
newspaper publishing concerns in
Prague, Ostrau and Kittle there
have been mass dismissals of Jew-
ish employes.
Scholarship payments have been
suspended to Slovak, Carpatho-
Ukraine and Jewish students by
the Prague branch of the College
Student Association. All Jewish
sports unions, including the Hagi-
bor and Maccabi associations,
members of which held interna-
tional records in swimming and
other sports were also suspended
by the Nazi authorities.
Although the Nuremberg anti-
Semitic laws have not yet been
introduced in the protectorate of
Bohemia-Moravia, conditions are
becoming daily more difficult for
Jews who are virtually prisoners
since no permits to leave the coun-
try will be issued to Jews. Most
of those arrested since the Nazi
invasion have been released. Mass
arrests continue, however, the vic-
tims usually being released after
a few 'days. Mme. Marie Schmol-
ka, head of all refugee work in
Prague, who was arrested, re-
leased, and again arrested, is still
being held. Ernst Frischer, engi-
neer and head of the former Jew-
ish Party, is still reported im-
prisoned, although Dr. P. Maerz,
head of the Zionist Organization,
has been released.
The Palestine Foundation Fund
and the Jewish National Fund,
Zionist colonization and land-
purchasing agencies, have been
forbidden to function; the Zion-
ist Organization and the Palestine
Office, however, have been given
official permission to resume their
activities. It is understood that
200 Jews possessing Palestine im-
migration certificates will soon
be permitted to emigrate to the
Holy Land. Although the head-
quarters of the Jewish Commu-
nity and the Supreme Council of
Czecho-Slovak Jews are now re-
opened, the official organ of the
Jewish community, Zidovske Spra-
vy, still is not appearing, and ail
Jewish relief organizations,
schools and social organizations
remain closed.
