Schneour to Speak
Here March 19, 21

Selman Schneour, the foremost
Hebrew poet and novelist of to-
day, will be the guest of the
Kvutzah Ivrith, the Hebrew Cul-
tural Group of Detroit, and the
Hebrew Teachers' Organization
of the United Hebrew Schools,
on Tuesday evening, March 21,
when he will deliver a lecture in
Hebrew in the Philadelphia-Byron
auditorium.
Salmon Schneour is considered
one of the greatest Jewish men
of letters of the present time. Ile
occupies an especially prominent
place in the modern Hebrew poe-
try. lie has become k .own
America mainly through his nov-
els and sketches which appear
from time to time in the Yiddish
press.
-He is now touring America
for the Jewish National Workers'
Alliance, under whose auspices
he will speak Sunday night,
March 19, and Tuesday evening,
March 21, he will be the guest
of the local Ilebraists.

Julien Bryan to Speak at Masonic Temple Thursday
Evening on "Hitlerism Exposed Inside

Nazi Germany "

If Adolf Hitler were assassin-
, ated tomorrow, every Jew in
!Germany would be dead within a
1 week in the greatest purge the
world has ever known. This is
the belief of Julien Bryan, ace
motion picture cameraman. who
will show 10 reels of file taken
by himself in Germany lust year
which he calls "Hitlerism Ex-
posed Inside Nazi Germany" at
the Masonic Auditorium, Thurs-
day, March 16,
Bryan leaves no doubt about
his own convictions regarding the
Nazi regime in Germany. Ile
doesn't like it. His pictures, how-
ever, are "straight reporting" of
the life and habits of German
people today and the drama of
Hitlerism, he insists.

Purge Gains Force

in Germany gaining steadily in
force and effectiveness, Bryan

Fear. War Sentiment

Bryan, whose show will start
at 8:20 p. Ill. Thursday night,
March 16, at the Masonic Audi-
torium, is apprehensive lest lec-
turers, newspapers, ministers, and
the radio in America stir up such
a feeling against Hitler that the
nation would be anxious to wage
war against the German people.
Ile draws a sharp line between
the Nazis and the German people.
The Nazis, he explains, received
only one-third of the votes in the
election which brought them to
power. However they promptly
eliminated the nation's 25 polit-
ical parties, seized control of the
army and the police and then dic-
tated the country's policies with
little fear of effective opposition.
Throughout Germany, Br yan
says, he found much opposition
to Hitler and the nazi program,
but he does not see any chance
that this could be stirred to the
point of revolt under present cir-
cumstances.
War, he says, would put arms
into the hands of the people and
overthrow of Hitler's regime
might soon follow. As it is now ,
however, all kinds of meetings
are taboo and five persons who
meet together are arrested mere-
ly because they met. Discussion
of public policies is dangerous,
even in private, for a careless
word against Hitler may result
in loss of employment or may
even lead to the concentration
camp.
Tickets are selling very fast at
Grinnell Bros. box office. This
will be the only showing of "Hit -
lerism Exposed Inside Nazi Ger -
many" in Detroit this season.
