In a formal statement issued
in response to inquiries from
member stations, Mr. Miller
said that no radio station is
obliged to broadcast speeches
that play "on religious bigot-
ry .• . . religious or racial
prejudice, or hatred." Although
he did not mention the name
of Father Coughlin, his state-
ment is a direct blow at the
Royal Oak radio priest whose
anti-Semitic addresses have
served to revive a religious
issue in this country.

ment that broadcasts "inciting
racial and religious hatred are
an evil not to be tolerated"
and are "unworthy of Ameri-
can radio."
