17 State Representatives and
County Officials Urge U. S. Aid
For Jews' Position in Palestine

The 17 members of the Michigan House of Representatives
from Detroit on Thursday wired President Roosevelt and Sec-
retary of State Cordell Hull pleading with him to intercede
with Great Britain against the nullification of the Balfour
Declaration and the Palestine Mandate. The telegram urged
the President to exert his influence against the stoppage of
Jewish immigration to Palestine.
Representative William G. Buckley appeared at the emer-
gency conference of the Detroit chapter of the American Jew-
ish Congress on Thursday evening and read the text of the
telegram to the I'resident and to Secretary Hull. He also
assured the gathering that the Michigan Representatives will
be pleased to use their best efforts to support the Jewish
claims.
The telegram of the 17 re resentatives and the names of
those who signed it follow:
The seventeen members of 5lic an State House of Rep-
resentatives from Detroit heard with eep concern of threat
to Jewish aspirations to upbuilding of Jewish National Home
in Palestine and wish to urge you to use your good offices to
intercede with British Government against destruction of
Jewish hopes and against the abandonment of great effort
for Jewish Homeland that was endorsed by fifty-one nations of
the world. Cognizant of the fact that United States Govern-
ment is a party to American British Palestine mandate en-
dorsing Jewish efforts for Palestine'a upbuilding we join with
great Christian and Jewish leaders in protesting against
abandonment of work for Jewish National Home and surren-
der of Jewish population of Palestine to forces of violence
and hatred. We urge you to act in behalf of our government
to call upon Great Britain not to impede Jewish progress and
to continue to facilitate without interruption immigration of
Jews from lands of oppression in Palestine. As a power
friendly to Great Britain we hope United States will be in-
strumental in defending rights embodied in Balfour Declara-
tion and Mandate for Palestine."

to Jewish security in Palestine. He read the following tele-
gram signed by the following officials and sent to President

The Wayne County officials of the State of Michigan
view with deep concern the impending threats directed
against the Jewish Homeland in Palestine. Jewish hopes
and aspirations in the upbuilding of Palestine must not be
abandoned or surrendered. The rights guaranteed in the
Balfour declaration and mandate for Palestine should be
held inviolate. We urge you to use every effort in behalf
of our government in an endeavor to see that all Jewish
rights in Palestine are not hampered or impeded in any
manner."

From Pentateuch:

"I have known him (Abraham)
that he shall command his chil-

of the Lord and practice justice
and righteousness."
"Thou shalt love thy God with
all thy heart, soul and might.
These words shall be on thy

"Instruct thy children to speak
of them when thou sittest in
thy house or journeys on thy

"And make known to thy

the very day when thou haat
stood before the Lord at Choreb

"And gather ye the men, wom-

that they shall listen to the

From Psalms:

From the lips of the children
