Christian Sells Heifer;
Gives Proceeds to J.D.C.

NEW YORK.--The story of
a Christian citizen of Orlando,
W. Va., who recently sold his
two-year-old Durham heifer,
donating the proceeds in aid
of oppressed Jewish popula-
tions overseas, was made pub-
lic by Rabbi Jonah B. Wise,
natiopal campaign chairman of
the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee. The heifer was owned
by Alfred Lee Skinner of Or-
lando, who, moved by the
stories of the plight of Jewish
populations in Germany, Aus-
tria, and elsewhere in Europe,
donated the heifer to the cause
of relieving their misery.

Status of Jewish Refugee Doc-
tors Should Be Studies. Med•
ical Journal Says
CHICAGO. (WNS)—"Careful,
sympathetic consideration" of the
problem of the refugee Jewish
physician in the United States is
urged upon the American medi-
cal profession in an editorial in
the current issue of the Journal
of the American Medical Asso-
ciation. Pointing out that in
1928 there were 36 immigrant
doctors from Germany. Austria
and Italy admitted to this coun-
try while for the first eight
months of 1938 the number of
such doctors was 302 from Ger-
many, 62 from Austria and 26
from Italy, the Journal says:
"While the total number of
physicians coming to this coun-
try from abroad may not be
great, the problem is increasing.
The question of restriction of
immigration is one which will no
doubt come before the Congress
of the United States. The situ-
ation is fraught with difficulties
arising from economic stress,
chauvinistic prejudices, fears that
have been stimulated by propa-
ganda and other motivations."

If it weren't to tragic it would
be poetic justice that the Rev.
Martin Niemoeller, militant anti-
Nazi Protestant leader of Germany,
is now under arrest . . . Ile was
once an ardent Nazi.
