"The records show that there
were from 30 to 40 thousand
Jewish volunteers or 18 per cent
of the Jewish contingent. Official
records reveal that there were
225,000 Jews in the various
branches of the armed services of
the United States during the
World War. Of these. 171,000
were in the army, 23,000 in the
navy, 12,250 in the Marine Corps
and 18,000 in other branches of
service.
"There were 1,100 citations for
valor in the American Army: The
Congressional Medal of Honor
was conferred on six; the Distin-
guished Service Cross is worn
by 150; the French Military Med-
ia was given to 4; and the Croix
de Guerre was given to 174 of our
boys of the American Expedition-
ary Forces. Fourteen thousand
of our Jewish boy. were injured
and 2,800 paid the supreme sae-
