Zedek Sisterhood May 23

At the meeting of Pisgah Lodge
of Boni Brith on Monday night,
May 16, at the Maccabees Bldg.,
there will be an initiation of can-
didates, at which time the ritual
of the order will be exemplified
by the degree team of Pisgah
Lodge composed of Elias Gold-
berg, Joseph L. Staub, Samuel W.
Leib, Henry Thumin, Harold M.
Silverston and Aaron Rosenberg.
There will also be reports by
Aaron Droock, Samuel W. Leib
and Ben F. Goldman, on the pro-
ceedings of the international con-
vention of Bnai Brith held in
Washington, D. C.
The meeting will be open to
the public and all members and
their friends are urged to attend.

The Sisterhood of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek will hold its
annual meeting, on Monday, May
23, at 2:15, in the social hall of
the Synagogue, Chicago at Law-
ton. In addition to the election
of officers for the ensuing year,
and reports by the committee
chairmen of the activities of the
past year, the program chairman
has arranged an instructive pro-
gram. Rabbi A. M. Hershman will
address the Sisterhood, and Miss
Elizabeth Finley, the Sisterhood
representative to the recent con-
vention of the Women's League
of the United Synagogue, will
give a report of the convention.
Music and a social hour will fol-
low.

The Little Women of Iladas-
sah will hold their second annual
fashion show and bridge-tea May
22 at the Jewish Community Cen-
ter, at 2:30. The assisting mu-
sical artist will be Blossom Ro-

Synagogue Library to Be
Dedicated at Emanuel
Wednesday

In observance of lag b'Omer
and National Jewish Book Week,
the Men's Club of Congregation
Emanuel is arranging a public
program for next Wednesday,
May 18, at 8:30, at the social hall
of the synagogue, Taylor at Wood-
row Wilson.
The evening will be featured by
community singing of modern
Hebrew melodies led by Cantor
Rubin Boyarsky and a descrip-
tion of the observance of Lag
b'Omer in Eretz Israel by Ben
Zion Applebaum. The guest speak-
er, an American Chalutz, has lived
in Palestine for a number of
years, and he and his wife are
visiting in Detroit with Mrs. Ap-
plebaum's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Shevitz.
Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter,
spiritual leader of Beth Tills
Emanuel, will formally launch a
new project at the synagogue—
the establishment of a library of
Jerish books. As a result of an
appeal made during the Passover
services, a number of the mem-
bers of the Congregation. the Sis-
terhood, and the Men's Club have
contributed books of Jewish in-
terest and gifts of money for the
purchase of new books to the
new library. These contributions
will be publicly presented to the
synagogue on Wednesday evening,
and Rabbi Wohlgelernter will
speak on "The Books of •
People."
The public is invited to join
with the membership of Emanuel
and their families at this meet-
ing. There will be no admission
charge and refreshments will be
served at the conclusion of the
program.

Shower on May '24

The annual shower sponsored by
the North Woodward branch of
the Jewish Women's European Wel-
fare Organization for the General
Israel Orphans' Home for Girls in
Jerusalem, Palestine, will take
place on Tuesday, May 24, at 1
p. m., at the Bnai Moshe, Lawrence

Spring Luncheon May 17

The annual spring luncheon of
the Hebrew Ladies Aid Society
will be held Tuesday, May 17, in
the banquet room of the Dexter-
Lawrence Hall. Luncheon will be
served at 12:30 o'clock and will
be followed by card-playing and
prizes.
The committee is headed by
Mrs. Max Cuss and Mrs. William

Center Players Give "Three
Cornered Moon"

The Center Players will present
"Three Cornered Moon" by Ger-
trude Tonkonogy at the Central
High School Auditorium, Sunday
evening, May 22.
This play is a hilarious laugh
riot that has made a hit on Broad-
!way and on the motion picture
screen.

The Infants Service Group met
at the home of Mrs. J. Rosen,

was discussed.
Mrs. S. Kleinman spoke in be-
half of the popular elections of
the American Jewish Congress.
Dr. A. Zieger, who is now tak-
ing care of the Infants Service
Group medical cases, gave an in-
structive talk on child care. Dr.
Zieger conducts a Wednesday
morning clinic for the group's
cases.
Mrs. M. Witte, case worker
for the Infants Service Group, re-
ported that many of her cases
are in need of cribs and buggies.

was a leader in the Zionist move-
ment and in cultural projects. His
book store on 12th St. and his
previous store on Oakland Ave.,
were gathering places for intel-
lectuals in Detroit.
Mr. Plotkin died at his home.

Louis J. Goodman Is Hon-
ored at Luncheon by
Mutual Insurance

Louis J. Goodman was a guest
of honor at a luncheon given at
the Statkr Hotel last Saturday by
Joseph P. Macken, local manager
of the Mutual Life Insurance Co.
of New York. This honor was
conferred upon Mr. Goodman in
recognition of his remarkable rec-
ord which has placed him in the
forefront of the company's lead-
ing producers.
On Wednesday evening. Mr.
Goodman, who is the leader of the
Detroit agency of the Mutual Life,
