Ticktin Memorial
Meeting on May 24

A committee representing
25 local organizations, under
the chairmanship of Bernard
Isaacs, has set May 24 as the
tentative date for the memo-
rial meeting in tribute to Eph-
raim I'hilip Ticktin, Detroit
pioneer in the Ein liashophet
colony in Palestine who was
murdered by Arabs shooting
from ambush, on April 7.
Dr. Stephen S. Wise, presi-
dent of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America, writing to
Lawrence W. Crohn, president
of the Detroit organization,
commented as follows on Tick-
tin's tragic death:
"I am deeply moved by the
story of the death of your De-
troit boy. It means one thing
-that we have got to go on
and stand for the right as he
stood and died."

PERMANENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WILL PLAN REFUGEES' ASSISTANCE

LONDON, (WNS) - Although
Palestine is not mentioned by
name anywhere in the new Anglo-
Italian accord, informed political
circles here express the opinion
that one of the immediate results
of the understanding will be the
easing of political tension in the
Holy Land where Italian support
will be withdrawn from Arab ter-
rorists. The absence of any ref-
erence to,Pniestine was the only
surprising telvture of the under-
standing barause it was widely
believed that Italy would give its
approval, Actual or implied, in
the accord to the plan to parti-
tion Palestine. The question of
Italian anti-British and anti-Zion-
ist propaganda in the Near East
was covered in an annex to the
accord but also without mention-
ing Palestine by name.
Mussolini's acceptance of Leslie
More-Belisha, England's Secretary
of War and the only Jewish min-
ister in the cabinet, as the offi-
cial emissary of the British Gov-
ernment to seal the new Anglo-
Italian understanding is generally
interpreted here as a direct slap
at Hitler. The German chancel-
lor is due to visit Italy in May but
he will be preceded by Hore-
Belisha, who is to be received this
week by 11 Duce. The feeling here
is that by acquiescing in the se-
lection of a Jew as Britain's ren-
resentative Mussolini sought to
allay the concern over anti-
Semitic manifestations in Italy,
and at the same time show once
more that Germany's racialism is
not approved in Italy.

Suicide Epidemic Among Hungarian Jews;
2,000 Arrested as Rumania Crushes
Codreanu's Fascist Plot

VIENNA (WNS) - Restoration of the
medieval ghetto is being planned in Austria
by Josef Buerckel, Nazi governor, according
to a report in the Landeszeitung of Salzburg.
The paper declares that Buerckel will pro-
pose that ghettos be established in the oldest

sections of all towns and cities and that Jews be forced
to live in them. It is intended to forbid them to appear
in the main sections of any city without a special permit.
According to the Salzburg paper, the Jews will have to
wear the yellow badge on their outer garments and will be
compelled to dwell behind walled gates which must be

', blocked from 6 p. m. to 7 a. m. The
Vienna edition of the Voelkischer
Beobachter reports that Buerckel
